Follow the beachfront or the Jalan Legian road north from Kuta to arrive in lovely Seminyak. The town is known for its calm beaches, impressive buildings and exclusive shopping, all of which make it a very desirable tourist choice.
Fashionistas will love the mix of designer brands and local colour, all of which are available much cheaper than in most Western countries (though this is one of the more expensive places to shop in Bali). If you’re looking for the big labels, Jalan Laksmana is the place to go, while a stroll around Seminyak Square is a quieter alternative and one where you’re more likely to uncover a bargain.
Excellent dining is also to be found here, with Seminyak having some of the finest restaurants in Bali. Stroll along Jalan Petitenget and make your choice. Rooftop eating is a speciality here, and you can enjoy a cool drink and people-watch from above, all with the sky as your only ceiling.
Take in the historical side of the island at Petitenget Temple, an ornate building designed in typical Balinese style. Located near the sea, worship can often overflow onto the beach, so you might encounter a ceremony if you’re lucky.
Replenish your energies and revive your spirits at one of the resort spas available, or head for the beach, which is much less crowded than busy Kuta. Seminyak Beach has more forgiving waves than many parts of Bali, so it’s a perfect choice for the beginner to try surfing, or you could go horseriding or enjoy a cocktail at Double Six Beach further along the coast.
Walking is the best way to get about and appreciate Seminyak – and it’s also recommended as a way to avoid the traffic. Other choices include renting a bicycle or a scooter, or taking a taxi from Seminyak Square.
