Cosy Swiss-Style Wooden Chalet in Aberdovey, Snowdonia with stunning sea views

Aberdovey, which is in the Snowdonia National Park, is a village of great character and charm, located at the mouth of the River Dovey. It is unspoilt and the small amount of development that has taken place in recent years has been carried out at the rear of the village thus not disturbing the sea front and shopping area.

The estuary offers excellent facilities for sailing and water-skiing, there being a public slipway. There is a superb sandy beach with sand dunes which is ideal for children, behind which there is a well-known golf course. It is possible to hire sailing boats, canoes, SUPs and to go on fishing trips. Windsurfing is now a very popular sport in the estuary and boards can also be hired. Kite surfing is also popular and local tuition is available. There are two public tennis courts, a pitch and putt and a bowling green.

The surrounding area provides plenty of entertainment for children on bad days. At Tywyn, just five miles away, there is an indoor swimming pool, squash courts, playground, cinema and the well-known Tal-y-llyn narrow gauge steam railway. The countryside around Aberdovey is reputed for some of its beautiful walks, Happy Valley being just to the rear of the chalet site. the famous Cadir Idris mountain is 40 minutes drive away.

The chalet is on a small exclusive site immediately at the rear of Aberdovey being some two-thirds of a mile from the village centre. It is on high ground and each chalet enjoys unrivalled views over the Dovey Estuary and South Wales. On a clear day you can see both the Northern and Southern tips of Cardigan Bay. The site is surrounded by fields and open countryside and could not be more safe for children.

It is a Norwegian pine bungalow, being finished to an extremely high standard with double-skin walls, floor and roof and double-glazing. Thus it is warm and cosy on a wet and windy day and cool on a hot day. The accommodation is as follows:-

Living/Dining room - this is a particularly attractive feature of the chalet as it is south-facing with picture windows all round and it enjoys fabulous views. Leading off is a large balcony which can be used for eating out. One corner of the room is used as a dining area with a large pine refectory table that will easily seat eight people. At night, the seats pull out and converts into a 4’6” double bed. The whole room is tastefully furnished in pine and bright colours. There is a colour television and a digital satellite dish in place, but tenants need to bring their own black box and viewing card.

Kitchen area - another corner of the living room is separated off to form a compact but practical kitchen incorporating a fridge, dishwasher, small microwave oven, electric cooker and masses of cupboards. It is fully equipped with cooking utensils, crockery, glass and cutlery for eight people.

Bedroom No. 1 - double bed with duvet, fitted cupboards. (Double blankets are available if required; they are stored under the dining-area sofa unit)

Bedroom No. 2 - double bed with good headroom plus full-length single bunk bed above also with good headroom, duvets, chest of drawers and hanging space. There is a cot provided (that would need assembling), along with an Ikea infants high chair.

Bedroom No. 3 - full-length bunk beds with good headroom, duvets, fitted cupboards.

Bathroom - Shower, wash basin and WC.

Cupboard containing mains switches, hoover floor cleaner, etc..

Bed Linen, bath towels and hand towels are provided. Please bring your own beach towels. Please also bring with you a small amount of dishwasher tablets if you wish to use the machine.

OCCUPATION: 3 p.m. on day of arrival; departure by 11am at end of stay.

Lovely little chalet
Very comfortable and cosy chalet with nice views and plenty of room. The chalet was very clean and very well equipped, although we had an issue with Wi-Fi dropping out after the first day. Overall a very nice stay, and if in the area we'd probably look to stay there again.

Cozy, clean and comfortable Cabin
Had a great weekend away in this honey, comfy cabin. As the weather wasn't great we got to spend more time there, had everything we needed for cooking, games for the kids, Freeview. It was clean, great views, looked after, comfortable, and cozy. We would definitely come back 😁

Relaxing getaway
The property is located on a hill with a breathtaking view. It offers pretty much everything you might need except for WIFI. The seafront is only a 10-minute walk away and there are a few footpaths near the chalet.

Felt like we were in the Swiss Alps!
What a lovely stay we had. The chalet was perfect and in a great location. Alistair was quick to phone me when I couldn't find the smoke alarm which was bleeping - the problem was solved immediately. The rooms are big, beds comfy. Sitting on the decking was lovely and all the neighbours were very friendly. I would highly recommend this accommodation and we hope to return for another stay!

Fantastic view
The property was comfy, clean and well maintained. Everything was well catered for. The views from the Chalet are amazing. We will definitely be going back. Would not recommend for those less mobile as the Hill to the town is long and Steep. Kept us fit though.

Views to die for
The cabin is situated on a hill overlooking the beach and sea and the views were worth the money on its own. The roads were really tight and extremely steep. We walked it most days, but it was a real workout and not for the faint hearted. The cabin had everything needed and loads of toys, games, etc which kept the kids entertained. Overall would happily recommend to anyone

Cosy with beautiful views!
We had a wonderful time at the chalet, the views are spectacular and the chalet is cosy, very well equipped and on a hidden and very well maintained site. The children loved discovering and playing with all the toys, puzzles and games that were there, as well as playing on the grass outside and running up and down the hill! The beds are cozy and comfy and the kitchen had everything we needed to cook. The area is beautiful and we had a great time crabbing, on the beach, and discovering nearby waterfalls! Alistair was a really responsive and very helpful host - quickly answering questions and giving us recommendations for places to visit and eat. Would highly recommend!

Lovely week away back in Aberdovey
The property is in a superb location above the village with great views across the estuary and out to sea. The chalet is cosy and welcoming especially during inclement weather. It's a good base to explore the surrounding areas and the recommendations in the visitors guide are very good suggestions. Only slight problem is the internet access - even though getting away from tech is always good, needs must and my spouses business needed connections during our stay. It was explained as being intemittent so we understand the location has its limitations. A lovely relaxing stay spending great time with 9 and 12 yo children. Recommended.

The children enjoyed crabbing off the jetty and playing on the beautiful Sandy beach.Alastair is a fantastic host who communicated through our booking, checking in etc and gave us tips on where we could take our dog locally. We highly recommend this property and will hopefully return soon we absolutely fell for aberdovey.

Half term break
Nice cabin but dated, could do with some updating but i appreciate it’s a family holiday home. Main issue was dog hairs all over the cabin, the sofa was covered in dog hair and smells like dog and has pistachio nut shells down the sides on the chairs, black dog hairs in every room and cobwebs all over bedroom windows. The cleaning company is letting it down as i know the owner doesn’t live nearby. Alistair did contact the cleaning company on behalf of us though and offer to come to the cabin, but it should just be cleaned properly the first time. Had clear directions on how to find the cabin which was very helpful.

October 2022 Half Term
Stayed for half term, myself, wife, 3 kids & dog. We all instantly felt at home! Asda food delivery arrived on time with provisions for week, we cooked most days, the kitchen is well equipped. We visited the local store and butchers for extras. Views from chalet are amazing, I will miss looking out at the views with morning coffee. We did some great walks from the chalet, and often visited the nearby town for ice cream and play on the beach, which is a really lovely beach. We walked up the hill from the town to the chalet most days, and all feel fitter for it. It's a wi-fi detox, and we really enjoyed playing board games in the open plan living area. Really can't rate it high enough and would recommend to anyone.

H’s First Holiday
We stayed in the cabin for our 2 and 1/2 month old’s first trip away. The cabin has fabulous views from the hill above Aberdovey and is located close to both the town and beach on a quiet park where the cabins are well spaced out. The cabin itself is fairly large and comfortable with everything you need for a self catered holiday. The bed was very comfortable and there was even enough room in the bedroom for our travel cot. I think the owners have refreshed the cabin quite recently with some new carpets and sprucing up of the bathroom which add some extra comfort to the traditional and homely feel. The only slightly detracting point, which we wouldn’t have even noticed without a little one on a playmat were some, what we think were cat hairs. Perhaps just investment in a slightly stronger hoover now that new carpets have been installed. Very enjoyable stay and would definitely use again.
