Find out what’s on at this esteemed events centre, housed within an architectural landmark in the heart of the city.

The Albert Hall Convention Centre has gained renown as an architectural masterpiece since it opened its doors in 1891. The hall’s monumental design in the Classical Victorian style makes it one of Tasmania’s most significant heritage buildings. Visit Albert Hall to see its elegant façade and classical ornamentation and stroll around its parkland surroundings. Attend an event or convention within the building’s great hall and see the stunning Brindley Organ.

Stroll around the grounds of Albert Hall and take in its exquisite architecture. Note the elaborate detailing in the two-storey cream-coloured building. The front of the building features a stunning symmetrical design with a grand central staircase flanked by antique lanterns. Look up to see the tall green dome that rises up from the classical pediment.

Explore the interior by attending an event or making an appointment. Enter the hall at the back of the building the ornamented front entry is only used for special occasions. Step inside to see the magnificently elaborate main stage and the ornamented balcony that skirts around the rear of the hall.

Check out the hall’s astonishing mid 19th-century organ, a cherished addition built by Charles Brindley. The organ is beautifully encased in local blackwood and Huon pine, with a range of zinc, sugar-pine timber and metal pipes soaring high above the keyboard. Its kangaroo-skin bellows were operated by hand until a water engine was installed in 1891.

End your visit with a break at Victoria’s Café, housed within a glass atrium alongside Albert Hall. Enjoy a light lunch, hot drink or glass of local wine in this light-filled venue.

Albert Hall is located to the northeast of central Launceston, a few minutes’ walk from the Brisbane Street Mall. Check the hall’s official website for information on upcoming events. The exterior is free to enjoy at any time of day.
