Desk has an attitude and was not appreciate at all. Hotel under construction, debris around Sheetrock mud tracked into the common areas, smells and more.

Check in went well. No morning room cleaning or towel exchange, had to call for at least towel exchange when we got back. Lots of construction, which was not disclosed when booking. Would not have booked due to strong smells and dust.

My family and I were in town for a softball tournament. Upon initial check-in we were given our room key. We open the door to the room and there were paint cans and other materials everywhere. I called the front desk and she was ever accommodating by placing us in another room. The room was clean for the most part. However, the curtains had dark stains on them, the light fixtures in the bathroom were rusted, and there was a bug on one of the beds. Not an awful hotel, but I won’t be staying at this location again.

Best Stay By Far!
We were here for 3 days for church and will say that this was the cleanist hotel we have stayed at in the last 10 years coming to Alexandria! I usually bring cleaning products with us to clean our room once we check in and to my surprise when i cleaned the floors they were actually CLEAN! The staff was very friendly and professional as well!

Absolutely terrible could not check in customer service was terrible, was not even able to check in saying they haven’t been paid well I paid and after a conversation with hotels.com and a them speaking with hotel I was moved to holiday inn express Terrible service on the hotels end!!

We booked this room at the Candlewood Suites, IHG property, in Alexandria, LA, through Expedia. On Expedia, it said it was "pet-friendly", this is what I was searching. Upon check-in, they inform me that there is a $100 pet fee! Really, not posted on the website, "we're under IHG management now", is the explanation. We have stayed in pet-friendly hotels before, way nicer than this one, and have never paid a $100 pet fee; it's always been $25-$45. I refused to sign whatever paperwork they wanted for the pet, never read it, but does it even matter, no! Upon check out, they had to get the manager, flagged my room, still being charged the $100 fee. I asked, does it matter what size dog, mine if <10 lbs, doesn't matter what size dog. Does it matter if it sheds, mine does not shed, no, it doesn't matter. I should have taken all my dogs, the little one and the 2 big dogs that do shed., and are outside dogs. It's ridiculous how this is not explained at time of reservation. If it would not have been so late at night, I would have cancelled the room. I will NEVER book through Expedia again, or book at a IHG managed hotel. I'll go through the actual website of the hotel. As far as cleanliness, it was clean, but outdated and old. The light in the bathroom had lots of rust on it, so not sure if it's stays very humid in the rooms or if they previously had water issues. Also, the rooms still have carpet, from the pictures online, their rooms had flooring.

The front desk people were very nice. However, our toilet did not flush, the room had a terrible smell and we didn't realize it was in a very unsafe area for females traveling alone. I wouldn't recommend staying here unless you were not leaving the hotel. Unfortunately no one addressed the toilet situation, but we only stayed one night.

The service is great. The building is old, despite upgrades. Our room remained so moist it curled the cover of a paperback book. We had two roaches (or water bugs). We asked housekeeping to come in and do a thorough cleaning because we still had two days left. They offered to move us upstairs but we had already stayed there several days and it was inconvenient to move.

The furniture was all scratched and in disrepair holes in wall with exposed wires the place had to changevour room and still the new room was terrible. I rate this place a 1 star and I will now stick with Hiltons
