Finest Retreats | Upper Howick House

Nestled in the heart of the historic town of Alnwick, this charming and unassumingly large house provides character-filled accommodation spread across two levels, with two living room areas, four bedrooms and two bathrooms, making it an ideal choice for families and friends seeking a Northumberland getaway.

The ground floor welcomes you with a bright and inviting sitting room, with large window lighting up the modern, tastefully decorated home - a perfect spot to unwind after your day's adventures. Ascending to the first floor, you'll find a well-equipped, fitted kitchen and a spacious dining area complete with comfortable sofas. Sharing the ground floor with the open plan kitchen and dining area, there’s a host of area to dine and relax.

Upstairs you’ll find another rest area, with a pull out pool table and seating for added comforts, off the landing area to the bedrooms, two double rooms and two twin rooms, in addition to one of two bathrooms.

Outside you’ll find ample seating for all and a BBQ should the weather permit you to cook up a feat al fresco!

If you wish to explore Alnwick, the cottage's prime location puts you within a short walk of an array of excellent pubs and restaurants. And beyond the town's boundaries lie a wealth of attractions waiting to be explored. The Heritage Coast, Warkworth Castle, Amble Marina, Alnwick Castle and Gardens, Dunstanburgh Castle, Craster, Beadnell Village, and the majestic Bamburgh Castle—all of these treasures are less than a half-hour's drive away.

Venturing a bit farther, you'll find the historic wonders of Hadrian’s Wall, the captivating Holy Island, and the enchanting Cragside House and Gardens in Rothbury. This Alnwick House serves as an ideal base for year-round exploration, allowing you to experience the charm of this lovely county in every season.

The Northumberland region is renowned for its unspoiled beauty, offering a harmonious blend of captivating coastline and picturesque countryside. Sandy beaches meet the majestic Cheviot Hills, providing a picturesque backdrop for your adventures. Medieval castles and stately homes abound in the area, including the iconic Alnwick Castle. Alnwick itself retains the enchanting character of its medieval origins, with cobbled streets and narrow alleys winding through stone buildings that now house an array of specialty shops and family-run businesses.
Embrace the atmosphere of Alnwick's historical Market Place, refurbished to evoke the charm of medieval times and serving as the hub for local events like Alnwick Fair and the International Music Festival.

We stayed over the Christmas period and arrived to find a tree and decorations on the mantelpiece
We stayed over the Christmas period and arrived to find a tree and decorations on the mantelpiece. There was a welcome hamper of festive treats and basics which was greatly appreciated. The open-plan kitchen/dining room was fully equipped and perfect for preparing and enjoying meals. There was a supply of wood to use in the wood burner and the house was warm and comfortable and there was an endless supply of hot water. It is a short walk to Alnwick and we were able to park on the street outside the front door. All 4 bedrooms were comfortable and there was a sufficient supply of towels the bathrooms were large and modern. It would suit a family and groups of friends. We highly recommend this property.
