Peace and Quiet on the Thornapple River
The house is really cute and cozy. It is right on the Thornapple River. A beautiful place! Just sitting outside in the swing by the river was so relaxing. The location is really very convenient to Grand Rapids and only an hour away from beautiful Lake Michigan and the many lighthouses up and down the shores. We would recommend this home to anyone traveling to Michigan. Thank you Linda and Wally for sharing your beautiful home with us! We loved it!!! D'Wayne and Melissa Tennessee

A step back in time
This charming older cabin on the bend of the river was the perfect place for us to spend a weekend with our family. We kayaked and birdwatched and built fires and played games. A very short 15 minute drive got us to Calvin University, where our daughter attends school, and also to just about every store imaginable (including a Sierra and a Trader Joe’s). This really is a best-of-both-worlds kind of stay. It’s close to everything but you can still sip your morning coffee along the quiet river and watch the birds play. A red tailed hawk even came and sat on the tree near the back porch this morning. The kayaks and the firewood were a huge bonus. If you are looking for something that is trendy and feels new, this is not for you. If you are looking for something cozy and comfortable that harkens back to a time when life was a little slower, and if the idea of “owning” your own slice of paradise along a calming river for a few nights appeals to you, you’ll love it. We’ll be back to tube the river when it’s a little warmer.

Relaxing Long Weekend
We loved the relaxing location of this property on the Thornapple River. We were able to kayak, barbeque, watch movies and sit by the campfire. If you are OK with an older home, this is the place for you! We did not want fancy, we wanted family and that's what we got. Thank you so much!

Riverside Paradise
My husband and I stayed here with our three young granddaughters for Cousin Nature Camp. The girls loved fishing from the dock and our nightly campfires. This was the perfect setting for nature. We put the three girls upstairs and we used the queen-size room on the main floor. Wally, the owner, is very friendly and responsive to any needs you might have. Campau Corner is nearby and has everything you might need. We had pizza from there and it was very good.

Peaceful and quiet
A 3 day stay, we would all have liked to stay longer. The river is lovely, fishing is fun, and its location is not far from other attractions. The house had everything we needed, nicely organized. The morning sun shines through the kitchen window, bright and cheerful. Our host gave us a little tour, showed us the best places to swim, fish and launch a boat. We felt welcomed and relaxed .

River Retreat
We had a wonderful stay at the Alaska River cabin. The property is just beautiful. We caught fish and grilled out. The cabin is old we did not mind as we spent very little time inside and it had comfortable beds.If you are looking for luxury this is not for you. Great for a family and dog wanting to get away from the city and just enjoy nature.

I was very happy with the place. We have been staying in vacation rental for many years. This is our first to say it is everything we want. 2 hour drive, near city but still out in the country, on the water, fishing available and very clean. The host has provided everything for you to have a great time.

Perfect house and location along the river
The River House was perfect for our weekend trip to the Grand Rapids area! The property is beautiful! The landscaping- lawn, flowering trees, and shrubs- were gorgeous in spring (early May). It as so nice sitting along the river enjoying the day. The house is close to the road, but the traffic is very light and it never bothered us at all- even when sleeping with the windows open toward the road. The house is quaint, and it immediately felt like home. The interior is so inviting and relaxing with the couch and window facing the river. I hope we are able to return! We had no issues with the reservation process. The owners provided the perfect amount of information at just the right times. It was about a 16 minute drive into Calvin University. Any birdwatchers really need to visit Stagecoach Park in Middleville and walk south on the bike trail. Others would enjoy the walk, too, but the birds were great! Thank you Linda and Wally!!
