The property is very attractive, and our room was pleasant with stone walls, and a very modern bathroom. The Palacio Horkasitas has been renovated to a high standard. We had booked a 'Comfort room with a mountain view'. Our room faced the front, and the view was mainly of the car park. We had some difficulty finding the property, as Artzentales was not on our satnav, and a local lady kindly drove ahead of us to help us locate the hotel. It is up a one lane road off the main road, with a sign saying Barrio Horkasitas, which was easy to miss. We arrived at 8pm, expecting to have a meal in the restaurant which was advertised on the website, but on arrival we were informed that the restaurant was not open and that we would have to drive back to Balmaseda to get a meal. This was not what we planned, tired after a day of travel. I asked about restaurants in a little supermarket in Balmaseda, but was told they didn't open mid-week. There were bars open, nothing more. We were disappointed to find that breakfast at the Palacio Horkasitas is not served till 9am. We were woken at 6am by a shower running in an adjoining room. Internal walls are very thin there. We went down for breakfast at 9am, and were shortly joined by another couple, but there was no sign of any breakfast service. No staff, and just some croissants left on a table. At 9.15, we gave up and checked out. Luckily the room was pre-paid. We found our passports had been left out on the table in reception overnight.
