The space:
Interior of houseboat is in the last phase of final interior design. As rooms complete, pictures will be added.
Wide open floor plan with views of the marina and the Savannah River. The main entrance to the boat invites you into your main living area where you’ll find adequate leisure and entertainment space for up to four people. Moving into your space and energy saver kitchen, you’ll have a closeted stacked washer/dryer unit for you to use with complimentary laundry detergent and whitening pods. Enjoy a cozy reading nook which overlooks the boats original paddle wheel and the Savannah River.
Heading upstairs (really tall folks mind your head), your first room on the right has twin sized bunk beds with breathtaking views of the river. Adjacent to this room is a walk-in, multi-functional space that can easily store larger belongings or act as dressing room for special occasions.
Walking down your shiplap hallway find a full bath with walk-in shower that sits next to your “full” sized bedroom with wrap around windows displaying views of the marina, river and Downtown Augusta.
Your outdoor space includes a front patio that wraps around the lower deck, up the staircase and onto the upper level, rear entertainment space. Outdoors on either patio you’ll discover the true beauty of your backyard, the Savannah River. Sipping your morning coffee, sunset wine tasting and midnight star gazing are just a few experiences you can enjoy here on The General.
The entire inside and outside decks of the The General are open for use. Access to the rooftop is prohibited.
We offer early check-in (12 NOON) and late check-out (1PM) for $50/occurrence. Availability is based on a first pay/first service basis and may not be available in all cases. ( i.e. guest pays $50 for a 1PM late check out, there would be no option for the next guest to pay $50 for an early 12 NOON check-in. ) We recommend that you request either or both when sending your initial introduction message upon booking.
You will have a lockbox attached to the main gate fence. The code will be communicated to you just before check-in.
Other things to note since we don’t want any surprises when you arrive.
Here are some things to expect:
DOWNTOWN - Downtown is walkable. If you're attending an event at the Miller Theatre, Imperial or dinner and drinks on Broad Street expect a 5 to 10 minute walk depending on where.
Dining? Try Luigis for some the oldest of old school Augusta fare. https://www.luigisinc.com/
Or Sports Center for a very casual watering hole and the best burger in Augusta (if it's not sold out) https://www.facebook.com/sportscenteraugusta/
SAVANNAH RIVER - We see many different species of wildlife both in and out of the water. Insects, reptiles, birds and fish will all make a presence here on the river. We spray the outside of the boat with natural insecticides to minimize insects from intruding your space. But it's nature. Keeping the doors opened to a minimum and closing them behind you, especially in the summer months will also help tremendously.
FISHING - We do not supply any fishing gear but Walmart (less than 10 minutes away) has a full fishing department and counter to purchase a Georgia Fishing License. Fishing is only allowed off the boat itself, not the dock. But given its 70 foot length you'll have plenty of room! Visit Georgia’s Department of Natural Resources website to read all rules and regulations before casting your line.
MARINE TOILET - We have a zero tolerance policy for any kind of waste to enter the river. The toilet used on the boat is top of the line Marina grade Sanitation system and though looks like the one used at your home, there is some nuance. We supply the bathroom with a marine grade toilet paper which is the only thing besides human waste that should be flushed. A $400 charge applies to any waste system failure that is caused by any prohibited object or thing you flush that might clog or imped the macerator and sanitation system.
INSIDE TEMPERATURE - You’re glamping in a houseboat that sits in direct sunlight from sunrise to sunset. There is a brand new mini split AC system on the boat and works fabulously but you may find that the temperature inside the boat may hot (or colder) than the outdoor temperature. For example during the summer months in Augusta, we climb into the upper 90’s with heat indexes in excess of 115’.
