Bainbridge Island Museum of Art Tours and Activities

Bainbridge Island Museum of Art

Explore the contemporary arts and crafts of the Puget Sound region at this easily accessible art museum on Bainbridge Island.

Make a stop on your regional visit at the Bainbridge Island Museum of Art (BIMA), located a short walk from the Winslow ferry terminal. From its permanent collection by the Puget Sound’s finest artists and craftspeople to a unique assortment of artists’ books, this is the perfect introduction to the culture of the island.

BIMA earned LEED Gold certification for its exceptional environmental design. As you approach the building, notice the pleasing architecture of glass, tigerwood, stone and concrete.

Enter the contemporary building for its galleries, auditorium, café, museum store and outdoor plaza. Island residents and visitors look forward to changing exhibitions, with 15 to 20 new shows annually, in addition to a variety of classes, films, lectures, workshops and concerts.

Don’t miss BIMA’s growing Artist’s Books exhibit, which changes three times a year. These 3-D art objects reveal a story over time and space, stimulating conversation about the art and its medium. Inspect a variety of art forms, from drawing and painting to sculpture, textiles and photography.

Stop at the BIMA Bistro for a lunch made with local ingredients. Order a pickup dinner to take home and enjoy with a recommended movie.

Before leaving, browse the Museum Store, with its well-curated collection of one-of-a-kind artwork, clothes, jewelry, stationery, books, home décor and items related to current and permanent exhibitions. Regional artists created many of the pieces for sale. Visit during one of the store’s pop-up arts and craft fairs, perfect for souvenir and gift shopping.

After your visit, take a self-guided art walk along Winslow Way, an easy stroll from the museum. Among the numerous intriguing galleries are the Small World Art Gallery, the Art Project, the Jeffrey Moose Gallery and the Winslow Art Center.

Walk to Bainbridge Island Museum of Art in 5 minutes from the Winslow ferry terminal. The museum is open daily and admission is free. Travel by ferry from Downtown Seattle in about 35 minutes or by car, bus or bicycle from across Bainbridge Island. Free parking is available.
