Located in the Belfast suburbs just three miles south of city centre, this 18-hole parkland course was opened in 1914 and recently celebrated its centenary. As well as a challenging design and beautiful fairways – complete with trees, waterways and stone bridges – this par 69 course has associations with no less than four major Ryder Cup golfers, including the renowned Irish champion, Fred Daly.
Balmoral Golf Club is a golf course with staying power. During WW2, a prisoner-of-war camp was situated close to the course and the 13th fairway became an air-raid shelter. However, that didn’t stop play! Keen golfers traded balls for cigarettes to keep on the greens. After the war, the course returned to its full former glory.
Today, the Balmoral Golf Club is one of the most popular in Belfast. Centrally located on Belfast’s Lisburn Road, it welcomes visitors warmly. It is possible to reserve your place online and you’ll find the greens fees surprisingly affordable. In addition to its challenging layout, the clubhouse has an impressive menu of delectable local cuisine and a selection of fine wines. What better way to kick back and relax after an afternoon on the fairways?
