Take on seemingly endless miles of exhilarating downhill ski slopes at this modern, family-friendly resort.

Bardonecchia Ski Resort is one of Italy’s finest, offering three ski areas and nearly 50 pistes. Despite its excellent snow record, the resort remains relatively uncrowded and the quiet slopes retain an old-fashioned charm. Relax in pretty chalet-style hotels and take advantage of the peaceful but exciting ski runs.

Located in western Piedmont along the French border, the resort features around 87 miles (140 kilometers) of pistes, with slopes above 8,200 feet (2,500 meters) receiving lots of natural snow. The resort is set at 4,300 feet (1,312 meters) and the majority of the slopes are ideal for intermediate skiers. Expect fine skiing and snowboarding conditions throughout the ski season. Most slopes face north or northwest, causing snow to remain on the ground for an extended season.

The resort is divided into three main areas: Colomion-Les Arnauds, Melezet and Jafferau. Colomion-Les Arnauds is the home of the base facilities. Beginners should head to the lowers slopes of Colomion-Les Arnauds and Melezet. Linked by lifts, these areas offer extensive beginner runs as well as a ski school.

Take the free ski bus to Jafferau and ride the double chairlift up 6,300 feet (1,922 meters) to see wonderful views of the surrounding mountains. This area offers more challenging terrain for advanced skiers, including narrow runs through trees and fine off-piste terrain.

Check out the Olympic Snow Park in Melezet for snowboarding. The area includes multiple rails and jumps, a box and two boardercross courses for side-by-side racing. Find an off-piste heli-skiing area just behind Melezet.

Bardonecchia Ski Resort is in the Susa Valley, 60 miles (95 kilometers) west of Turin. Use one of four airports less than a 2-hour drive from the resort. The area is also well linked to major cities by rail. This easy access makes the area an ideal choice for short ski vacations. The local lift pass includes access to all lifts in the Bardonecchia ski area, along with one day each in the neighboring resorts of Montgenèvre and Via Lattea.
