The Bothy, an extremely well appointed self catering holiday home, is located in Marwood, which is a small cluster of listed farm cottages and barns approximately one mile from the historic town of Barnard Castle in County Durham and at the eastern end of Teesdale.

Originally built in 1810 the Bothy was converted to a small but comfortable detached cottage for up to four people. The cottage has off road parking for one or two cars, use of the large garden and one well behaved dog welcome by arrangement ( please mention in enquiry).

The accommodation is based around an upstairs open plan lounge and kitchen, with internal exposed stone wall and open rafters. The two bedrooms, one double and one twin are located downstairs along with a high quality bathroom.

The cottage is well insulated with modern rapidly controlled electric heating and electricity is included in the price. All bed linen and towels are provided.

WiFi is available upstairs and in the double bedroom. Mobile phone coverage is generally good and there is a TV/DVD player.

Guests are very welcome to use the garden which is mainly a large lawned area with a small pond.

Access to a EV charger, shared with the owners property is available for a small charge.

Wonderful base to explore the area from
A lovely little place with a good-sized, well fenced in garden your dog can use. A mile or so outside Barnard Castle itself, with a convenient footpath walk in and ready access to the rest of the area.

Short break from work
Really enjoyed the location, accommodation and the hosts were very welcoming - they had a minature schauzer as well. Enjoyed the walks and the garden which is fully enclosed allowing our dog freedom to run around. Highly recommend you stay here especially if you want to relax and just enjoy nature and the countryside. After our stay we both felt refreshed and recharged.

What a gorgeous cottage
We had the most amazing time at cottage it was clean warm and fully equipped. It's a walk into town but a delightful one The garden is Fantastic my dog just loved running up and down constantly. The area is peaceful and we barely saw a soul the owner's respect your privacy . I really can't recommend it enough Thank you Diane for a great weekend

The Bothy is a lovely compact conversion. It is well equipped and comfortable. The garden area was great. The weather was good so we were able to get the best of it . Our cockapoo had the time of his life in the garden . He was safe and secure. This is a great property in a beautiful area. We would definitely stay here again if visiting this area again.

Brilliant Bothy
Diane was very helpful. Bothy clean and well equipped. Spacious garden was lovely given the sun shone for us. Well positioned just out of Barnard Castle in beautiful countryside. Beautifully restored old building but issue requiring dehumidifiers in bedrooms caused my asthmatic friend breathing problems during the night. Overall a fantastic short stay.

Lovely Comfy Bothy
Comfortable and well presented bothy with excellent facilities. A long day of heavy rain kept us indoors for longer than we'd planned but the place is so peaceful and warm that it was a pleasant opportunity to read and write. The location is splendid. Barnard Castle is just down the road, where we liked the farmers' market and, especially, the butchers' on the corner; High Force and the fells are a little farther off. Thanks to all who run and manage the Bothy for helping us enjoy a short break in the North Pennines.

Great stay near Barnard Castle
Really charming little property. The owner lives next door but you're left in peace and you even get a welcome pack with goodies such as milk, bread, cake and wine. The kitchen is well stocked and the living room is comfortable with Wi-Fi. Plenty of hot water for showers and a peaceful location a short drive from Barnard Castle. Plenty of parking on the drive and you have a garden to use when the weather is good. Overall very good and recommended - only thing I'd look at is a bigger double bed for the main bedroom. We walked close by to local footpaths but many fields have cows in, which made it tricky with our daughter and dog.

Lovely Cottage in Barnard Castle
The property was very clean and comfortable. Nicely decorated and bright. The beds were lovely and comfortable and the area very peaceful and quiet. Lovely garden to enjoy too. Just a few minutes by car into Barnard Castle - Barnard Castle was such a pleasant surprise. Fab meal in the Three Horseshoes. We loved the area with the river to walk alongside and the impressive attractions in the area - like High Force, Bowes Museum (wow!) and Beamish. We will visit again.

lovely time at The Bothy
The property was in a very peaceful location,just right for a relaxing break,it is an upside down cottage and this adds to it's charm,it has lovely beams and exposed brick on some walls,the upstairs is open plan with the space very well utilised,the bedrooms are a good size with very comfortable beds.The shower is lovely and warm. The owner had left plenty of leaflets of things to do in and around the area which is very helpful,there was also a complementary bottle of Presecco and some cake which we thought was a nice touch.There was also a selection of DVDs and games to choose from if you wanted to stay in and relax. All in all a lovely cottage with some nice added touches to make your stay more pleasant.We would recomend The Bothy as a great place to stay and we would also go back again.Lastly it is very reasonably priced too.it doesn't break the budget
