Definitely a one off place, really interesting building, beautifully decorated and furnished. Food brilliant. The owners and their staff were all so welcoming, friendly and helpful. Will definitely go back for a longer stay.
Comfortable rooms with quirky design features ...combination of beautiful antiques with great art. Staff go above and beyond in terms of service . The food was scrumptious. Definitely going to be back for a longer stay and highly recommended. Thank you !
I have only great things to say about this property, our room was something out of a novel, clean, spacious, and the balcony off the front was the cherry on top. And of course all the staff were incredible.
We have always enjoyed our stays at this wonderful hotel in Barrydale. It has new super-friendly owners who have done wonderful renovations. The staff are all amazing. Dinner and breakfast where both delicious. Next time we'll stay 2 nights for sure.
We unfortunately only spent one night in this fabulous hotel, but we definitely plan to return! It is just SO interesting, vibey, friendly and comfortable. The historic building, art everywhere, magnificent huge room - all wonderful!! A bathroom you could dance in. Lovely back garden. Huge own private balcony. We had the Baines room, one of the ten large rooms. The owners are super friendly and treat guests like old friends. We'll be back!
Boutique hotel in the middle of nowhere. The property was lovely overall and the room was old and had antique charm. But it was cold and all I had in a large suite was a small fan heater. My room was full of old colonial era photos - not something I particularly appreciate and for that reason alone I will not stay there again. Dinner at the in-house restaurant was an attempt to be fancy with limited options, but I think it missed the mark and was quite overpriced. Breakfast was also quite limited and did not cater for varied dietary requirements.
O atendimento é sempre profissional, atencioso e eficiente!

This hotel has been in operation since 1866. It is old, floors are creeky and it has no air conditioning. Shower and sink were obviously added later to the rooms. To that I say ‘who cares!’ This place is awesome. So beautiful, so cool. The art is great, the property is great, the staff is super friendly and helpful. Last night the hotel bar and restaurant were both full and everyone was having a good time. The food was excellent by the way. Our room faces the mountains and we have a wonderful view of it from our own little balcony. Love it here!
A real hotspot in the middle of nowhere. Lobby, Library and Bar are equipped with great stylish furniture and fantastic pictures and other art. Staff is really friendly and supportive. The best is the menu, the taste and presentation of the food - would not expect that such a chef serves guests at such a remote place. At this place we had the best breakfast ever during our two weeks trip in ZA. A first world issue is that the WIFI is not that stable. As we were travelling as a family it was disappointing that our daughter had to sleep on the floor on a mattress - this does not suit to such a fantastic hotel with all the above mentioned great impressions.
A very unique hotel and a wonderful experience. The art is amazing and there are lots of comfortable spots to sit and read or just relax. the food is excellent. Unfortunately, the Springbok pie pastry was chewy as it was probably warmed in a microwave oven, which is such a pity.
Amazing place and lovely staff. It’s a real experience.
The standard rooms are very basic with a shower in the room. The superior rooms are lovely (wish they had a fridge) but overpriced I felt.
The breakfast is great. The restaurant food is slightly hit and miss and promises more than it delivered.
The pool area is beautiful and there is a (slightly neglected) kids area.

Off the beaten track
The hotel is a step back in time. If you are looking for a luxury hotel then this isn’t for you. If you want a comfy bed, great meal and outstanding service then the the Karoo art hotel fits the bill. We really enjoyed our night here, in fact we wish we had more time and could have stayed longer.
It’s not 5 star but it had everything we needed and just the drive to get there was worth the stay.
