The hotel is located in the middle of the ghetto (which is what Batam is). This is not visible from the strategically taken picture of the front of the hotel. As a white tourist, expect to get ripped off everywhere you turn. They will over charge you for all taxi rides despite negotiation and for food and even when changing money lied and said the advertised price is only for $100 or more and gave themselves a 16% commission on the money I changed. There is absolutely no reason to visit this island. There is nothing to do but a couple of malls. You cannot walk around without people staring at you and yelling at you to try to extort money from the rich tourists. The prices are cheap but you will not get the cheap prices. You are much better off staying in Singapore where people are honest and will not take advantage of you. If these people wanted tourists then they should be treating them a little better but maybe I'm the only one who notices what's going on.
Back to the hotel, there was a creepy abandoned building right next to my unlocked hotel window. Stains, hairs, and tears all over the disgusting bedding and towels. When the towels were wet after use they smelled like cigarette / wet dog. There is no possible way that the sheets were washed after the last guest stayed because there is no way to get that much hair back on the sheets after washing. There was mold growing on the ceiling in the bathroom and the floor in the bathroom and ants crawling all over
