About this property

Entire place

You'll have the entire home to yourself and will only share it with other guests in your party.

Your own private island! Rustic and close to Nature.

Want a unique vacation? Everyone loves the idea of their own island. Peaceful, quiet and away from it all. In recent years we even have a nesting bald eagle pair! Our cottage is rustic, no running water and no electricity.

We have a propane stove, refrigerator, and lanterns. Guests must bring water and small propane canisters for their stay. Guests are required to clean before departure.

Bathroom is within the cottage and has an odor free composting toilet. For showering needs we have a camp style solar shower. Bedroom has a full-size bed. Crow's nest has a small futon that opens for an additional bed for one.

The $300 fee is the cost of the boat captain to make one trip to deliver you and your gear to the island and one to take you back. If you will be coming in your own boat or kayak, please let us know and we can refund that fee if we aren't hiring the captain.

Depending on the captain's schedule often arrival is the last trip of day and departure is 8 am. Additional trips can be arranged with our captains as well as sightseeing tours. Please note the captain charges $25 to transport a pet. We have a dock if you would be interested in bringing your own boat.

Boat rentals also available nearby. Arrival and departure times are dependent on the captain's availability.

See Bald eagles and seals. You can fish for striped bass right off the island.
Water views from every window. The upper floor of the cottage is the Crow's nest (a tiny space accessible from a ladder below,) in the treetops with great sunset views.
Bring your kayaks! Crow Island was mentioned in the book "Rivers of Memory" by John Gibson

To quote Rachel Field, “If once you have slept on an island. You’ll never quite be the same.”

Lovely getaway island
My husband and myself have spent multiple years returning to the island. We really highly recommend it for the rustic nature loving souls who are searching for some serious separation from chaos. Deb and her husband are also just wonderful to work with. A tree had fallen in the pathway and her husband drove a long distance to come cut it out of the way and even found me on the island to ask if we were okay with the way he had moved and cut the tree. Just a wonderful family. We spend much of our time watching the dogs run around in pure happiness, fishing, watching the seals and other wildlife and going for long walks on the flats. One year a young seal came up on the island after it was injured and we gave it space to rest for a while (we called the experts for advice). Just such a beautiful place to be. Few things we have picked up over the years: to help the cleaning process at the end we brought a battery powered vacuum (we also have very furry dogs so we try to do our best to clean all the fur up). When staying for a week we bring a cooler with ice and use that for a couple days (they also have a cooler there) and then transfer everything to the fridge that’s left the last couple days. The current is fast and pup life vests or leads are literally life saving. The hosts really are remarkable - have accommodated us way above and beyond expected this last trip and always listened to our concerns previously. Really amazing people and beautiful place. We are grateful.

Exactly what we hoped for!
Idyllic off-grid experience. It was the adventure we wanted. I have stayed in another island location offered by the same owner (inland on Lake Cobbossee), so was prepared to bring necessary food, water, propane, and bedding. Everything else was provided - and then some! The cabin was clean, comfortable, and well-outfitted with all the necessities and amenities. The location was amazing! There is something special about being the only souls on a remote-feeling island. The dogs, of course, loved it. They would definitely also give this place 5 Stars! We had two kayaks delivered to the boat launch at Morse Cove by Sea Spray (a sit-on-top, and an ocean kayak with a rudder). They handled the drop-off and pick-up and were very pleasant and professional. We saw some great wildlife, too - seals and eagles, a real treat. We definitely can't say enough good things, too, about Captain Gary (River Run Tours). He was a major part of the experience, for us, and was exceptionally helpful, pleasant, and professional. While the weather wasn't great, it actually helped make our stay a great "experience." Would definitely stay again!

Reset weekend
What an experience. If you need a few days to reset your life this is the place to go. Very rustic, peaceful and quiet. The host communicated great. The boat ride was amazing and the captains both were friendly and pointed out the wildlife along the way. As for the property, the description is spot on. I highly recommend bringing more than you think you might need. We brought out SUP and it was perfect.

Wonderful Retreat!
Deb's cabin on Crow Island is a wonderful place to disappear for a few days. From the boat ride in (Captain Gary is super nice!) to the cabin and the island itself, it was exactly what my wife, dog and I were looking for! The cabin itself is equipped with all the necessities (although it being an off-grid cabin, Deb provides a good list of things to bring). It was also cleaned well, so we did our best to leave it in good shape for the next guests!

Great island retreat. Cozy cabin.
The cabin was well-supplied with batteries, water and propane cylinders, along with all the items one would need for an off-grid retreat: bug spray, trash bags, battery and propane powered cooking stoves and fans. Lanterns in all rooms. I liked the location with amazing sunrises and sunsets, and total privacy and peace. The biting flies were a real problem for me and my dog and at times we had to go inside to escape them. Thankfully, I packed a fly swatter to get them all off him. The bug spray was a big help. The bed was very comfy. The solar shower bag is old and should be replaced. The front deck is rotting and crooked and should be replaced. The dock system was perfect and in great shape. Overall, this was the retreat I so needed and the cabin was the perfect antidote for me. Thank you for making your place available. I plan to return.

Relaxing and remote
Crow Island and Deb's cottage offer a relaxing and remote vacation experience. Weather was gloomy during our stay but we made the most of it. We were glad to have brought slippers for added comfort inside and rain boots for exploring the clam flats in low tide. To those booking for future stays: cleaning is partially an honor system so please be prepared to pay it forward for whoever comes next! Overall a spectacular setting.

Surreal experience!
The only regret I have from this trip was not booking it for longer! We stayed from a Thursday to Sunday morning and enjoyed every minute of our stay. The tide rising up and down made it feel like we were exploring a whole new area every time. Plus the weather was a little different every day which made for the same effect. The breeze and shade at the cabin was perfect. 3 adults and my 50 lb - 2 year old dog had plenty of space and felt at home here! I love how clean and well supplied the cabin was. The dock worked perfectly for our boat and bringing all our stuff in and out. We saw the eagle, seals, many birds, and even a FAWN! My dog and I slept in the crows nest on the last night and saw a beautiful sunrise. The cook stove and outside grill worked great for our meals. We didn't use the fridge but were able to keep everything in our coolers just fine given there was much shade. I would HIGHLY recommend this rental to anyone who LOVES rustic and loves nature. I couldn't stop staring in awe of the whole experience. We plan to return!!

Island getaway
The cabin is sweet and the island is so beautiful. I was there with my dog (she loved running in the mudflats) We saw a harbor seal throwing fish in the air and a seagull snatched a fish and then promptly had it stolen by an eagle. National geographic got nothing on this !!! I would suggest really good shoes as there is a fair amount of rock walking and no real even terrain Bring a portable charger so that you can stay connected if you need that, Once the dock is repaired it will be better. Deb was easy to work with and patient with my many concerns. All in all I would say it was an adventure with some beautiful nature.

Private little getaway from the hectic world
This was the perfect little getaway from this crazy world we live in. My wife and I spent 3 nights there with our 12 year old son and our black and chocolate lab. The location was just perfect with the sunsets, watching the seals, and playing out on the mud flats. Our dogs ran and swam for hours when the tides were low and just had a blast. Our son loved looking for sea creatures and exploring the island. The cottage was a quaint place. Playing games at night surrounded by the hurricane lamps was a great experience. On the negative side please make sure you bring bug spray. The green heads at low tide at night were crazy. We did have to pickup a lot of trash that was left behind by previous guests. We also glad that we brought extra Coleman gas cylinders to cook with because the 20 pound cylinder was empty. We also did leave it cleaner than we found it. A little updating around the cottage would make quite a difference. The view and experience out ways any negative parts. We would definitely go back in the future. Communication with Deb and what to bring and planning for was great. Captain Gary was the perfect man for the job. He was there on time to pick us up and worked with us to get us off the island. When we left the fog had set in pretty thick and the tides were at the lowest. He texted with me and set a time that was safe for everyone. Will definitely come back and take a cruise around the area with Captain Gary. Also we brought a little battery jump pack and charged our cell phone batteries. I would recommend bringing one. Again it is great little piece of Heaven and something that everyone should experience. Tom, Toni and Cooper Parker and Piper

Great little spots with some quirks
This is a hard one to review because the location and surroundings are a 5 star experience. The cottage, dock and paths on the other hand needs some serious TLC and I would give it 3 stars. Upon landing in a serious wind and current situation I helped the captain dock (I have a commercial boating license). The dock is missing floats which pitches it seriously upward and the gang way is weathered beyond repair. As I tied up the cleat actually came out of the rotted wood on the dock. At that moment I should have realized that many more things would be in a similar condition. The next thing you need to know is that the mosquitoes and ticks are intense. You need to apply real DEET based bug spray before arriving at the island. The cottage is cute but in need of TLC. It is not level at all and looks to be slowly sliding off the blocks. There are good windows and screens thankfully. The cottage leaks between the bedroom and the main house. The twin above is useless for all but a child assuming they are ok with climbing, the ladder. The carpet is covered in dog fur and the fridge if you can call it that, does not work. I re-installed the rainwater collection system at the kitchen sink to do dishes to save on lugging water. The solar showers are worn out and the caps pop off. An Install of a few solar panels would go a long way in keeping the place in better condition. You could pump water from under the sink, have a few lights, operate a fridge, and cut down on the waste of batteries. The fishing gear is all in serious disrepair so bring your own. I attempted to repair it and use it to no avail. The trails need to be maintained and one needs to be cut to the other side of the island, well away from the Eagles. My wife fell on the slippery rocks trying to access the other side of the Island while we were exploring on the first day. She got pretty banged up. There is trash and debris all over the camp from stuff being brought there, breaking and never leaving. if there were a 1-800 junk on a boat this place would be a perfect customer. Overall, I had a great time. The views and watching the seals play was amazing. Sunrises and sunsets were awesome. I got to see Outward Bound Pulling Boats (I was Staff and Alumni), Sometimes very loud people in fishing boats would come around, but most were quiet. Watching the Bald Eagles was fascinating. Would I go back? Probably, I don't think my wife would. Invest 5-10k in it and it is awesome. 4g cell is available

Need some peace and quiet?
This is a cozy comfortable house for one or two adults without feeling crowded (we had 3 adults and 2 large dogs - and managed just fine). It is surrounded by older trees and brush that gives it such a sense of security and privacy. I was concerned about the not having running water or electricity but the reality is - that is what I enjoyed during our 10-day stay. Many of us do not remember what it is to be in a truly quiet enviroment without electic machines humming, water dripping and all those trappings. The silence, filled only with wind, bird songs, and the sound of waves lapping is marvlous. I had forgotten. On the warm days we opened all the windows wide to the breeze and trusted the screens to keep the bugs out. On the cooler days we closed the windows, and on the coldest night turned on the little propane heater that made the house toasty in a matter of minutes. The house provides a kite, a fishing pole with lures, a handful of novels, gel pens, playing cards, beach chairs, and both solar and battery lights you can use indoors or out, and more. Flying kites was our favorite easy activity and the breeze was steady enough to keep them flying high. We cooked our veggies and carbs on the camp stove in the house, and our lobsters and other meats on the small grill outside. We cooked three meals a day for three adults with relative ease - so don't worry about that. And what made it even more wonderful was that they let us bring our two big dogs - who ran around the island and on the low-tide sandbars as if they had found heaven. There were no dangers on the island for the dogs which meant they could play and range freely without our worrying about them. Just make sure you clean up after them before you leave. We just returned home 3 days ago and are already talking about going back. My advice is to bring a knife sharpener, a few light mixing/serving bowls if you are cooking, sunscreen, bug spray, several favorite or new books, and your ability to let go and enjoy the quiet and the ebb and flow of the tides. I highly recommend to rent or bring kayaks or a boat with you so you can explore the surrounding areas. We wish you a wonderful trip no matter where you go. I hope you give this little treasure a try. - Tyson

Reprieve, simplicity, scenic, and comfortable!!
Arrived on Friday evening at boat launch. Captain Jay arrived on time. Both Captain Jay and Nathan (who returned us back to our car) were super nice and helpful with advice. The accommodations were as described. The bed was comfortable, composting toilet luxurious (we are used to outhouse), and the solar shower worked great. We brought our cooler and ice. We didn’t need the gas fridge which was good because when we tried it, it didn’t get that cold. Lots of propane canisters for stove. Gas lamps were perfect for our cribbage game. The highlight of our trip was the scenery. Sunrise and sunsets from our island were incredible. Seals, eagles, herons, crabs, jumping stripers, gulls, hummingbirds kept us entertained. We did a 7 mile kayak trip up the back river which was totally picturesque. We will definitely return. Tips: Bring portable chairs so you can sit on all sides of the island. Bring water shoes Swim sandy beach/mud flat at low tide Bring coffee and spices Bring ice (In case fridge doesn’t work) Bring 3 gallons of water (although some is supplied)

Very special location
This is the kind of place you may have paddled by and thought" Wouldn't it be great to stay there?" Usually these places are private and sitting unused. We felt very lucky to be on this tiny island with our dog, who enjoyed running on the mud flats and even riding in a kayak for the first time. The smells of the bayberry and huckleberries and the overall quiet were heavenly. We rented kayaks from Sea Spray Kayaks which worked out very well- the captain who brought us out was able to fit them on his boat. The cottage itself is quite small, and we found the "crow's nest" bed to be several inches too short for our teenager. If you don't mind roughing it, this is a wonderful stay.

Great experience
My husband and I loved our stay on Crows Island! The eagles nest was wonderful to watch every day, could see mama feeding her babies and dad standing guard (female eagles are larger than males, easy to tell who's who!). Our dogs loved the free roam and playing down by the sandbars at low tide. Definitely gets cool at night so bring warm clothes just in case! Would definitely go back!

Fun and romantic adventure on your own island.
My husband and I spent 4 days on Crow island. We opted to get a ride with Ed on his pontoon boat and have my husband follow with our boat, which is a small bass tracker type boat. (I would NOT recommend bringing a small boat, the waters can get rough and larger boats can create currents that were too much for our boat to handle!) I enjoyed the ride on Ed's boat and he was friendly and professional. The cabin was super cute and rustic. It was well equipped with everything we needed for cooking needs, and the fridge.. It was nice to have the battery operated fans at night as well. We brought a small generator used for camping (cost was about $110.00) which I highly recommend bringing!! We used it to make coffee and keep cell phones charged in case of emergency. (We did have one day of rain, we brought our laptop and a couple redbox movies to watch while it was raining.) It was nice to have the generator to charge the laptop as well. It was fun to have our own island!! I brought a float that I tied up to the dock so I could float and read a book.. At night we sat on one side of the island to watch the sunset and sip wine,, ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL AND PEACEFUL!! There was not much traffic on the water so it was quiet and romantic. In the mornings we sat on the dock sipping coffee and watching the loons and wildlife while watching the sunrise.. It was a unique experience. Now we can say we stayed on our own island!
