Stroll through a romantic lakeside garden, take photos of the pink-hued façades and learn about old German aristocracy in this pleasure palace.

Benrath Palace is a luxurious pink palace from the 18th century in the suburbs of Düsseldorf. Guided tours are available in the upscale structure, which contains museums on garden art and natural history. Look around this palace to learn about its fascinating past and its place in local culture.

Admire the baroque décor of the impressive corps de logis (main building), which has a wide pink façade and dark gray roof. On either side are similarly designed arched structures that once housed the servants.

Wander through the rococo gardens, which cover an area of 148 acres (60 hectares). Capture photos of the vast lake in front of the buildings. The grounds are divided into sections, such as the French Garden, the Kitchen Garden and the Orangerie. Inspect the wildflowers, shrubs and trees that decorate the gardens.

Embark on a guided tour and glimpse behind the scenes for a comprehensive understanding of the palace and its uses. It was constructed toward the end of the 1700s in the late baroque style and is considered a Maison de Plaisance (Pleasure Palace). Learn how it was used as a hunting lodge and summer residence by Elector Carl Theodor.

Examine the many displays and the period furniture in the various rooms of the main hall. Visit the Museum of Garden Art, which presents a 2,500-year history of European gardening. Browse the many displays in the Museum of Natural History in the east wing.

The museums are open Tuesday through Sunday from late morning until late afternoon. The fee for a day pass includes a guided tour and entry to the museums.

Find Benrath Palace in its namesake neighborhood in the southeastern section of Düsseldorf.
