See and smell beautiful roses at this dreamy park with hundreds of types of flowers. Appreciate the views from the garden’s position on a ridge.

Bern Rose Garden is one of the prettiest parks in the city, with 220 types of roses displayed. In this former cemetery, countless rows of colorful flowers, made up of rhododendrons, irises and azaleas now complement the eclectic rose collection. Spend some time reading a book in the peaceful setting before making your way through the Old Town.

Try to distinguish between the many different types of rose in the garden. Capture photos of the resplendent flowers. Relish the peaceful setting generated by the array of beautiful flora. In addition to the roses, there are moor beds, 28 types of rhododendrons and 200 species of irises.

Gather with family or friends near the pond. Bring along a picnic of Swiss delicacies including acclaimed types of cheese and chocolate. Make your way up the hill to the pavilion where you can sit and rest while you plan the rest of your time in Bern. Appreciate the excellent views of the surrounding area from the terrace where you can see the river and the Old Town.

Venture into the reading garden to sit with a book on a bench. Look up from the pages from time to time to appreciate the stunning setting that surrounds you. Visit in the afternoon to watch the sun go down over the Bern skyline from the garden’s highest vantage point.

When you’re hungry, visit the restaurant in the park or one of several dining options and cafés on the park’s border. Explore the quaint designs and customs of the Old Town near the park.

The garden has been open to the public since 1913 after spending more than a century as a cemetery. It is always open and remains free to enter.

Bern Rose Garden sits by the River Aar on the eastern edge of the Old Town. Take a bus to the Rosengarten stop next to the park. You can also walk from the city center to the charming garden. Nearby, you will find the Bear Pits and many restaurants.
