Admire the beautiful old stone buildings of Betws Garmon and explore the rugged natural surroundings. Hike across the pastures and through the woods, scale hills and mountains and gaze across lakes and at waterfalls.
Enjoy the walks in the area. Stroll along country lanes and past fields of wildflowers. Follow the Janus Path through the woodlands to Llyn Cwellyn. The path is across a wooden boardwalk, making it wheelchair accessible. The picnic area and toilet facilities are also designed to accommodate disabled use.
Head to Llyn Cwellyn for a calming stroll around the lake’s shore or bring a fishing rod and try to catch your own supper. Catch wild brown trout here. Llyn Cwellyn is one of the few lakes in Wales to stock arctic char. Take a boat or even swim here, but make sure you’re prepared for sometimes gusty winds.
Head to the mountains and enjoy more challenging walks. Try Mynydd Mawr to get started. It’s one of the easier mountain paths and can be climbed safely in most conditions. Get to the top and you’ll be treated to stunning views of the Nantlle Ridge and Mount Snowdon.
Climb Mount Snowdon to really challenge your physical abilities. Bring your mountaineering equipment and scale one of six ways to the peak. If you’d like to see the views without the difficulty of the climb take the train. Stop at the visitor center for a light lunch and view the mountaineering exhibits. Be aware that the train to the summit only runs in the summer.
