Top Big Island Scientific and Natural Area Hotel Reviews
Grey Wolf Lodge
10/10 Excellent
"I came to the area for my 55 HS reunion. This resort of very quiet and peacefull and a nice place to stay. The only downside is that parking is a long way from the cabin, AND no towels are provided AND there is no A/C. And, this is an older resort and I don't think a lot of money has been put into it to repair and maintain it. One example would be, the screen door has holes in the screen, rather than put a new screen in, they taped up the holes. There are other repairs like this that have been made that should have been done better. Obviously the owners dont want to spend money to upgrade things and fix things right. Even so, this is a very nice place to stay and is worth the money. The staff is very friendly and caring. I recommend staying there. Very nice location and grounds."
"We stayed two nights in a clean and comfortable room on the first floor with a second door that opened towards the parking lot that made loading and unloading suitcases easy. The place was quiet and not fully booked in August. The staff was polite and helpful in suggesting dinner options. We liked The Dam Restaurant up the street. The continental breakfast was OK, with cereal, milk, coffee, toast, and some other items. The only thing I didn’t like was the bed. The mattress and box springs were rather old and creaky and the bedding could use some updating, but it was fine for the two nights. The hot water in the shower was lukewarm the first day and hotter the second day. It could be because more surrounding guests in other rooms were taking showers at the same time the first day, I don’t know. All in all it’s a decent place to stay to visit Voyageurs National Park and Crane Lake. Bug spray on exposed legs and arms is a must! Long hiking pants and a thick shirt is needed for trail walking, or else spray your shoulders, too. We walked the gorge trail on Crane Lake and I was stung by mosquitoes multiple times all over both shoulders through my tee shirt. Mosquitoes were everywhere. I wore a hat or my scalp would probably have been stung, too."
"Property was beautiful. Kids begged to come back again. Staff was very pleasant, friendly. Quick to respond when you messaged. Our view from our room was beautiful!. Waking up in the morning to the sight of the lake was amazing! Will def come back again. "
Six bedroom, Five 1/2 bath private home on LAKE VERMILION with resort amenities
10/10 Excellent
"Our stay was the best we have ever had on Lake Vermilion in many years of vacationing there. Tom and Steph have thought of everything at Sunset Lodge for an amazing visit. Sweeping views of the lake...facing west for Sunset viewing! 6 Bedrooms and many baths made our family of 10 fully comfortable. Viking range and double Kitchen Aid fridge, and a great selection of cooking implements made it a joy to have a family feast. Two sets of laundry and multiple TV's....AND a fully equipped game room and big screen TV were ideal for the grandchildren on a rain day. Outside the dock has two fingers making boating a breeze and there is a beach with toys, kayaks, canoe and a permanent raft to swim to! Trash is picked up every other day....and the access to the resort gave our grandkids an amazing experience. We could go on and on but you will draw the same conclusions that it's amazing. Yes it is expensive...but in this case you definitely get what you pay for. Thanks Tom and Steph!"
Elbow Lake Lodge: Reflections Lakefront Cabin3BR/1BA
10/10 Excellent
"The cabin had a great view of the lake with a deck overlooking it. The lake is beautiful, and the fishing was satisfactory. The kitchen had all the supplies we needed, including nice dishes. I enjoyed having a dishwasher too. Bob and his family were friendly and helpful. There are kayaks available for free use, a ping pong table, a fuseball table, paddleboards, darts, and movies. If you don't mind an older cabin that needs some repairs, then it's a great place to stay."
"It a beautiful property! Alyss is very friendly and always there to help if needed. The studio is a beautiful room, just wish it curtains on the windows. Otherwise, huge, beautiful room! Would love to come again!"
"Great location for us. Trails were close by and easy to get to. Gas station was also very close and convenient. Hot tub was great to soak in after the days ride. Cabin layout worked very well for our group."
