This grand square is the site of many open-air events throughout the year, and is also home to the magnificent Kurhaus.

Wiesbaden’s Bowling Green is a splendid green space that stands at the heart of the city’s cultural and historic identity. Come to this lovely spot to enjoy a picnic on the grass, take in an open-air concert or pay a visit to the Kurhaus, one of the most impressive buildings in Wiesbaden.

The long history of the Bowling Green can be seen in the many clues scattered all around. Find the statue of Emperor Frederick III to the west of the green, overlooked by the opulent and historic Hotel Nassauer Hof. Spend a night here if your budget allows. Directly across the green is the Kurhaus, an elegant early 20th-century building that is one of Wiesbaden’s most recognizable landmarks. Today, it is a casino and venue, playing host to a varied selection of cultural events. Check its program to see what is on during your visit.

The Bowling Green itself also frequently draws huge crowds to its many events. Come here in the warmer months and if you are lucky something wonderful will be lined up. Some of the biggest names in music have played the Bowling Green over the past few decades. Those who have held open-air concerts in this space include the likes of Leonard Cohen, R.E.M, Elton John, Sting, Eric Clapton and many more. Come to Wiesbaden at the end of December to see the green at its liveliest, when the city’s biggest New Year celebration is held here and musical performances and fireworks abound.

Even if none of the events scheduled here during your visit are exactly to your taste, it is still very much worth visiting this charming spot. Pack a picnic and a blanket and spend an afternoon relaxing on the grass, watching Wiesbaden’s residents doing the same. Take photos in front of the two striking fountains and the large and elaborate Kurhaus. It is hard to think of a better background for vacation pictures.

Visit the Bowling Green for free on any day when there is no concert or ticketed event. Walk to the green easily from the historic heart of Wiesbaden, which spreads out directly to the west.
