Great value for money, and highly recommended! Fantastic architecture and history. Excellent staff - always polite, friendly and helpful. Spotlessly clean throughout. Great breakfast, which is cheaper if booked the day before. The only negative was the evening meals; very limited choice, only served in the bar area despite a beautiful dining room in the building. "Skin on" fries were thin oven chips. Perhaps a wider selection and the dining room are available at weekends?

This classic Victorian station hotel is iconic. It’s a wonderful piece of local history. The staff are friendly, the hotel retains all its charm and many of the rooms have been modernised. The main entrance is grand and reflects its status of the time. Yes it’s a huge hotel and without doubt will take some upkeep but I love its charm and it’s always very warm and comfortable whenever I stay. Deserves more stars than it gets.

I could feel the springs in my bed. The carpet was threadbare. The room was nice and warm on a cold day. The receptionist was pleasant and helpful. We hate in the bar, unfortunately the service was poor. The man behind the bar was serving drinks, taking food and drink orders and bringing food from the kitchen. This resulted in him spreading himself to thin. He brought my friend a drink and his soup and nothing for me. A lady came from the kitchen with a meal for someone else, we informed her we hadn't got my coffee or food. She sorted both out. My food was very nice but the service was terrible and my drink had to go back because it was cold. We had to park right at the back of the hotel, being disabled it was a nightmare because the car park was full of ice and I was frightened of falling.

Excellent all around
Excellent stay - friendly staff, clean and well-maintained throughout, very comfortable room, and incredibly helpful when I accidentally locked myself out of my room at 2am in nothing but my underwear.

this hotel was a pleasant surprise, a lovely building, though dated, meet all of our needs, I really liked that I could check in at 2 pm, then get on with my day. we ate in the restaurant as we found that we had the extra time to get ready prior to seeing our show in the evening

Lovely historic building.
I have stayed on many hotels across Europe for business trip, and I must say the bed and pillow were the best. Only one negative aspect to point out, there was no AC in the room. Fortunately the day I stayed was fairly mild.

Just one night. Our stay was ok. The building is very old and historic and the rooms have dated decor. The bathroom needs upgrading. The windows are very old.

Beutiful old property with oozing of character. You can imagine that this hotel was once the king of the jewels. Not anymore Although I must say overall it was clean it was very very tired. Breakfast typical buffet style was ok, but nothing to shout about. Would I stay there again, yes but I know what to expect. Needs probably a couple of million investment to refurb it back to its glory

Middle of the road
Pleasant stay, polite staff, clean bedroom, domestic/ cleaners went out of their way to ensure a comfortable stay. Information about facilities, was vey basic, for example needing a token to leave car park caused major difficulties, being a person of disability, having to re-park car / walking up hill-to reception, is not conducive to good customer care, not recognising inconvenience for many / individual needs . Breakfasts, had variety, information how the dinning room function was poor , observing the empty jam jar used the day before Still on table, dirty area by window facing broad way
