Walks: Hiding on the northern edge of the Brecon Beacons National Park, you only need to lace up, step outside and pick a direction to experience a soul-stirring stroll with the finest scenery in southern Wales. High mountain plateaus of grass and heather, glacier-scoured hollows, waterfall-splashed valleys, enchanted woodland walks and a plethora of rural landscapes waiting to make you swoon.
Experiences: Whether you’ve packed your hiking boots for the hike of a lifetime or you’ve always dreamed of a horseback tack through the wilderness, this place was made for doorstep adventures:
Explore Underground: Just 15-minutes southwest of Brecon sits Dan yr Ogof, a 17-kilometre long cave system where stalactites and stalagmites cling to the rock and atmospheric lighting adds to the ethereal experience.
Horseback Adventure: Not far away is Cantref Riding Centre, the only place licenced to take Pony Treks up on to the main peaks of the Brecon Beacons where you can soak up the spectacular views of the Brecon Beacons National Park from the unique vantage point in the saddle.
Hiking Heaven: As far as hikes go, nothing can quite compare to a sunrise start as you take on the highest, most famous peak in South Wales, Pen y Fan. With uninterrupted views over the Neuadd Valley and the reservoirs near Merthyr Tydfil, this is a mountain worth climbing during your stay.
Fine Dining: Whether you want to earn your pub lunch with a three-mile hike over the hills or you’d prefer a lazy stroll through Sennybridge, you have a choice of charming pubs dotted around you in almost every direction.
The famous Pen y Fan is a 30 minute drive away, with uninterrupted views over the Neuadd Valley and the reservoirs near Merthyr Tydfil and perfect for hikers or ramblers. The local town of Sennybridge is a 10 minute drive away but there is a pub just 20 minute walk away from the barn so not far to go if you fancy a meal out.
