Fall Foliage Cabin on 11 acres with Lake/Mtn. Views!

This vacation rental is functioning as normal. Bristol and surrounding area did not receive damage from Hurricane Helene. All local roads and businesses including in Abingdon VA. are open and operating as normal. Areas to the South (Elizabethton) and East (Damascus VA) and over into N.C. were severely affected. Please consider giving to the United Way of East Tenn.

Holston View Cabin: Minutes from Bristol overlooking South Holston Lake, and Holston Mountains. Make your Fall foliage weekend get-a-way or full weeks' vacation a special and unique experience. Surrounded by the Cherokee National Forrest, getting away does not get any better than this cozy cabin - completely off-grid yet fully functioning home. The 360-degree views of National Forrest Vistas and Mountains are makes Fall foliage viewing Spectacular!! Close enough to Bristol, Abingdon, Bristol Motor Speedway and surrounding lakes and trails for tons of activity, yet so cozy and comfortable to not want to leave the mountain retreat!! As with all vacation rentals - read FULL description. It is guests' responsibility to understand the property before booking.
Cabin is 800 sq/ft, one bedroom with beautiful Queen-sized bed, (Serta hybrid luxury mattress) vaulted ceiling great room has a wood burning fireplace for ambiance (fire wood included), a full-size futon daybed and a pull-out sofa sleeper plus dining table seating 6. All linens/towels/pillows and blankets provided. One magnificent full bathroom with antique claw-foot bathtub with endless "Insta-boil" hot water system. Tub has a shower wand, but no stand-up shower equipment. Full kitchen (all cooking and dining equipment provided), screened in back porch functions as second living room with another wood burning fireplace for ambiance, round out the living spaces. Cabin is completely off-grid with fully functioning solar system that works rain or shine (thanks to super large battery capacity) Cell service is great, no issues streaming to your devices. 6 guests MAX. Seclusive and private, a perfect Get A Way !! Do not worry about becoming acclimated to the cabin and how it works, a complete and easy to follow guide book will be forwarded upon booking giving details regarding heating systems (propane), 2 functioning fireplaces (firewood included in rental price ) solar capabilities, bath and kitchen functionality (all function as you'd expect a normal house with minor modifications - see these modifications below). Most guests have a long list of activities, bring your out-door activity gear for hiking or kayaking, fishing gear etc. - but most guests tend to while-away their stay relaxing in the cabin and taking walks on my 11 acre mountain property. Although pets are welcome you are responsible for ANY added cleaning or damage. If your pet uses a "pee pad" please do not bring them to my cabin. House broken means they are trustworthy to hold it until you let them go outdoors. Your pet cannot be left to relieve themselves on my back porch. I can't believe I have to include this in my description but live and learn. There are two outdoor fire pits, one in front of the cabin, the other closer to the top of the property only steps from the cabin. Hiking is spectacular with the Appalachian Trail, Virginia Creeper Trail, National Forrest service trails among others minutes from the property.

The property is accessible via paved county road, and then long mountain driveway/private road. AWD, 4-wheel drive or front wheel drive vehicle is recommended to access in wet weather. Recent work on mountain driveway/private road has greatly reduced the evidence of wear and tear, including the addition of drainage ditches and tons and tons of gravel!! Typical rear wheel drive vehicle works fine, with possible issues during heavy rains and snow. Snow is rare but when it occurs it is usually a small amount and melts within hours. The gravel driveway remains passable for the most part but on a rare occasion I have had to use chains (once). Mountain driveway/private road instructions will be forwarded with the Cabin and Property guide sent after you've booked. Check out pictures of driveway for a better idea of what to expect. Please note, ATV's, motocross and dirt bikes of any kind are not allowed on my property. If you are bringing atv's for use on designated tracks in the area, (Mountain City and Elizabethton) please leave on the trailer and do not run them on my property. Hunting is not allowed on my property.

The differences because of solar and off grid cabin are: no AC, no electric coffee maker ( but a beautiful French Press that easily mskes the best coffee) low but consistent water pressure with a delightful claw foot tub!) I make up for it in these ways:

There are wall mounted heaters in the great room and bedroom with the bathroom sporting a space heater for colder nights. All run on propene and function beautifully with thermostats.

Slow water pressure. Just be patient, the system works, it's just not gushing. I have a deep, deep well that is State of Tenn. certified to be 99.9% pure mountain water. It's delicious, fresh and better than any bottled water. Just take your time and follow the instructions in the guide booklet for taking baths, doing dishes etc.

No electric coffee maker - there is a beautiful French Press. If you are unfamiliar - Google it, it makes great coffee.

September - May the evenings typically get down in the 40's (occasionally lower in Winer months), and warm up nicely during the day. There are 2 wall mounted propane heaters which function beautifully, without residue, fumes or smoke; certified for indoor use. The fireplace is only for ambiance, NOT FOR HEATING the cabin.

It truly is a spectacular slice of heaven which I've taken over 25 years to develop on this mountain. The off-grid setup does not mean you are deprived of comforts and easy relaxation. It just means you'll need to get in the groove of the place and enjoy!!

Just as described!
Remote, remote, remote. 4x4 up the drive, no problem. Forget about a motorcycle tho. No AC, but I have never seen so many fans. Terry had expicit instructions how/when to open windows, curtains, etc, for the perfect indoor climate. Remember folks, you are off the grid. True, low water pressure, but ya have running water, indoor plumbing dont ya!? Once we arrived and mosied onto the deck we didnt want to leave for our planned adventures! Tree frogs sang us to sleep. (Super comfy beds BTW). Early morning coffee watching the mountain fog burn off. We had the pleasure of meeting Terry. What a nice man. Thank you so much Mr. T!

Had to use 4x4 to get to property. Old construction material laying around in several spots. Weeds grown up around house. House was 86 degrees inside. Texted property owner ,stated he never said it had ac. Asked what we could do about stay, I can't handle heat at my age. He wouldn't respond. After 2 hrs I called back ,he said nothing he could do go threw VRBO. I told him my wife and I didn't stay and he could rent to someone else. Lost $756

This place is great
We just got back from a trip to Terrys place and it was a wonderful stay. Everything was just as described. Please pay attention to his information on the driveway, we had a front wheel drive car, and had some trouble on the last two hills, using the switchbacks is a must, you won’t make it otherwise.everything he describes is very accurate, including the neighbors dogs barking lol. We had a great time and would definitely book again.

Rustic and Charming
If looking for peace and solitude, this is the place! A four-wheeled drive vehicle is a must. Once there, you have everything you need. Fixing dinner and dining in front of the fire under soft lamp light was just right. Surrounded by hiking, biking, and fishing opportunities. Easy drive to Bristol and Abingdon. Host was accessible and thought of everything to make our stay comfortable.

Magical Mountain Get-away
Terry’s cabin nestled above South Lake Holston was exquisite! So much so that we extended our stay TWICE! We spent 7 days cycling and hiking in the area, as well as visiting several breweries and a fabulous winery. The area offers exceptional gravel and road cycling. The cabin itself was gorgeous and secluded yet close enough to grocery stores and restaurants if needed. We loved having dinners on the screened porch while listening to the sounds of the Cherokee Natl Forest. Our AWD Subaru Outback had no issues making it up the driveway. And Terry was an excellent host. We’d love to come back again and again! A’Lissa, Russ & Yuma Clark

The water pressure was not good. NO air conditioning but they did have fans available.
Beautiful log cabin. However there was almost no water pressure. The grounds could have been weeded to improve the outside. Didn't realize there would be no air conditioning. Plenty of fans though. We had a fun time though.

Authentic Cabin in the Woods Experience
Terry's cabin is a head above other cabins you may have stayed in: it doesn't have the typical, sparse loft layout that is so common, but is much more of a home. Well decorated, clean, and cozy, it was just enough for 5 people, with a few opting to sleep on couches or air mattresses. It definitely is off the grid, but the only time you might notice in a negative way is the hot water, which is more of an art than a science. It wasn't a serious problem, as Terry provides detailed instructions. The location is as described. There are places on the property where you can look off into the woods and see neither man nor the handiwork of man. I was able to meditate with the sunrise each morning on the hilltop, surrounded by nature. The only surprise, though not an unwelcome one (given we ran the cistern dry one night, and Terry was quick to have it refilled it within the hour), is that Terry is down the drive in a camper. This wasn't a problem for our group, but I wouldn't recommend this cabin for noisy revelers. Another note on the drive: the 4WD recommendation is for real; we had to take one vehicle without it due to a breakdown, and while it made it up, it required a little trial and error to get the proper path, even with instructions. A few more miscellaneous things: there was plenty of firewood, there are numerous activities within a short drive (kayaking, hiking, and spelunking) and there are decent restaurants in Bristol proper; if you plan on renting watercraft: we only found one marina that rents, and it only rents Thursday-Sunday. Cootie Brown's does indeed serve "Real Food," [sic] as it indicates on their sign, and The Cave Pizza has some of the better pizza I've had outside of the Northeast. In summary, this property is a subdued retreat with modern comforts and authentic cabin living, close to a small city with enough dining and shopping options for a week or more, and within striking distance of dozens of trails, several caves, and a first-class lake.

Cabin in the Trees.
It was my 57th birthday and my husband took me to Bristol Tennessee as a much needed get away. Loved the fireplace on the screened porch. It was great that our pets (dogs) were allowed. From the location we were 20 minutes from downtown Bristol Tenn/Va., 25 minutes from Abingdon, Va., and 60 minutes from Boone, N.C. We visited all of them. Just a great Vay Cay all around.

The cabin is beautiful with so many historic relics hanging around. It is very quiet and peaceful in this heavily wooded mountain home. Be advised that a SUV or Truck is needed to get up here as the road is rough. Terry was more than forthcoming about everything you need to know. I would highly recommend!

The perfect cabin getaway
Highly recommend staying at Terry’s cabin! It was exactly what my boyfriend and I were looking for. The cabin is beautiful and had everything we needed while still getting to experience the outdoors. It’s a short drive to South Holston Lake and there are plenty of hikes nearby to do as well. I would love to come back in the Fall when the leaves change colors!
