  • The Basilica of the Holy Blood is a Roman Catholic minor basilica in Bruges, Belgium. Originally built in the 12th century as the chapel of the residence of the Count of Flanders, the church houses a venerated relic of the Holy Blood allegedly collected by Joseph of Arimathea and brought from the Holy Land by Thierry of Alsace, Count of Flanders. Built between 1134 and 1157, it was promoted to minor basilica in 1923. The 12th-century basilica is located in the Burg square and consists of a lower and upper chapel. The lower chapel dedicated to St. Basil the Great is a dark Romanesque structure that remains virtually unchanged. The venerated relic is in the upper chapel, which was rebuilt in the Gothic style during the 16th century and renovated multiple times during the 19th century in Gothic Revival style. Bruges is the capital and largest city of the province of West Flanders in the Flemish Region of Belgium, in the northwest of the country. The historic city centre is a prominent World Heritage Site of UNESCO. Along with a few other canal-based northern cities, such as Amsterdam, it is sometimes referred to as The Venice of the North. Bruges has a significant economic importance thanks to its port and was once one of the world's chief commercial cities. Great location, bit more quiet, but still walkable distance from the main sights. The staff was friendly, the rooms are spacious, clean and cozy. Good breakfast. No complaints, would definitely return.

Bruges Short Stay

Room is clean, location is great. Car Park is available with additional charge but no EV charging. WiFi is okay. We have booked 2 rooms and they are connected, which is great for us. However, the room on the Ground Floor and is next to the road and it is quite noisy. Staffs are nice and helpful. The facilities in the room are not the modern, no USB charging point, but you get what you need.

Property is situated on the edge of Bruges, just off the ring road but only a short ten-minute walk from the main square and all of Bruges attractions. The hotel room was large with a nice seating area. The buffet breakfast was also very good with plenty of choices. Parking is available, but pricy in the nearby underground car park.

Although it is a good 30 minute walk from the station, its location next to canals and proximity to the centre was handy. The room was comfortable, the public areas are very dated. Breakfast included in room rate wasn't great - zero acknowledgment from staff, bleak dining room, items had ran out, coffee foul. Given the general prices in Bruges for hotels, it offered fair value given location and bedroom standard.

We had a great time at the Golden Tulip hotel, quite close to the main square with the Belfort Tower, Bus no.2 from Bruges Station lands right outside the hotel. The room we had looked a bit dated but was really clean, for the money, as we were not in the room that much, was really good value. The Daily breakfast was really lovely and the staff were helpful, it was an 8 out of 10 for us.
