Private & Peaceful A-Frame Cabin

Nature’s delight! Hike up 300 feet and into the Hideout: your PRIVATE, ONE-OF-A-KIND GLAMPING experience. Nestled in the woods, the Hideout provides comfort for nature lovers & relaxation for adventurers. Feel the cool mountain breeze as you look through the trees across the meadow to the Blue Ridge Mountain range. Invite the outside in while you rest in the sleeping quarters. Quiet, peaceful, natural & unique. Not completely off-grid, but a “low grid” luxury experience for you & your companion.

GUEST ACCESS
You will have your own slice of our woods for your stay. From the parking space up to the Hideout and on up to the hammock, to the barbed wire fence overlooking the meadow, to the stars above, you can explore all the natural beauty around you.

VERY IMPORTANT TO READ BEFORE YOU BOOK
1. The ONLY way to the Hideout is by hiking uphill 300 feet. It’s steep so please wear hiking shoes or boots at all times when staying with us. You will need soles with treads as the terrain around the sight is uneven. We recommend carrying your things in backpacks rather than suitcases. The less you pack in food and clothing the easier it will be to climb the hill. We do provide goodies for our guests to enjoy. We recommend taking your time hiking up to the Hideout - the view is AMAZING along the way!

2. Being in the mountains we share our space with majestic animals of all kinds such as deer, turkey, hawks, bald eagles, squirrels, chipmunks, hummingbirds, and song birds. But we also share it with some other kinds like spiders, ants, mice, snakes, bears, flies, beetles and other bugs. We do our ABSOLUTE BEST to make sure these other kinds stay away. However, if even the prospect of the sight or sound of any of these animals or bugs causes you distress, we kindly suggest you book a chain hotel in the big city of Asheville. The experience at the Hideout is not a hotel experience, but an experience in the simplicity of life, the solitude of nature, and an adventure in uniqueness.

3. The Hideout sits on a completely private slice of our 1.5 acre homestead property. It is also a small working honey bee farm called “Natural Buzz” with active bee hives. If you are allergic please take note and stay at your own risk. If you aren’t and want to learn more about the magnificent honey bee please ask us about our Hideout & Hive packages.

4. The outdoor shower is only open during the warm months. Please read the sign in the shower picture before booking - sometimes it’s hot, sometimes it’s cold. Our water supply is natural, mountain spring water, gravity fed from a spring on our property. It’s cold and refreshing and safe to drink right out of the tap! But remember that all good things come to those who wait. Water doesn’t climb mountains fast, so the water pressure in the Hideout is like cooking BBQ ribs, low and slow. If you prefer an indoor shower or during inclement weather, day passes are available for $10/person at Blue Ridge Fitness & Rehab Center in Burnsville NC. Pass includes access to full gym & locker rooms with showers.

5. During the summer months we cool the Hideout with a water fed Air Cooler. This is a high efficiency alternative to Air Conditioning. It works to bring the temperature down by several degrees, by cooling down the hot air. The Air Cooler can also be used as another fan. There is also a ceiling fan, window, and screen door in the Hideout. During the colder months, the Hideout will be equipped with a Little Buddy indoor-safe propane heater. It will heat the sleeping quarters for a cozy night’s sleep. We also provide electric heated blankets for each bed. Extra regular blankets will also be provided. 6. We do have an outdoor cat, Abe, who loves to meet and visit the Hideout guests. He is very friendly and purrs a lot. But if you don’t like cats you can surely shew him away.

Escape!
Clean, convenient, and so cute! Heated blankets were are real treat, even though the weather was not cold at night in May when we stayed there. The view is incredible and just invites you to relax! Can't wait to return!

Un-Bee-Leavable
"The Hideout" is a great little setup. Very small (just as described in the listing) but with amazingly efficient use of space. Very clean and the hosts are responsive to requests and very helpful. Really cool to have "complimentary breakfast" (free eggs laid by the chickens of the hosts). I cooked my own breakfast (eggs, sausage, cheese, and bread - from the complimentary French bread provided by the hosts) every morning (reduced expenses, saved time versus a sit down restaurant, and a pleasant, quiet start to the morning from the privacy of The Hideout). And the hosts are beekeepers and provide guests w/free honey from their bees - sweet! The view from The Hideout of the surrounding mountains is beautiful and changes as the lighting changes from dawn, to full daylight, to dusk. Convenient location to Linville Gorge, Carvers Gap, Mount Mitchell and other hiking destinations. Places of stunning natural beauty. While I did not have time visit it due to a short 4 day stay and ambitious hiking schedule, the Mayland Earth to Sky Planetarium with the largest telescope open to public use in the southeast United States and a co-located planetarium is less than 2 miles away. There are many other local attractions related to the history of the region, local artists, etc., and "The Hideout" is a great place to base your travels from and the hosts are friendly and helpful. An un-bee-leavable place, but unfortunately I did have to leave - hopefully to return!

Definitely Will Book Again!
Don & Kate were amazing hosts who really cared for my sister and I. The heated-blankets were really useful and made for a cozy stay, along with the honey & eggs! Hammocks were also very fun to unwind and watch the sunset! Perfect view!

Excellent Stay
Considering we are avid hikers that love the mountains, this was a perfect place to stay with all of the amenities that you could possibly need. Beautiful area. Easy to find. Loved the short walk up and down from the property. Will 100% recommend to all of our friends in that area and will definitely be staying here again.

Charming semi-off-grid stay!
Really awesome and unique property! Don and Kate were very attentive and were kind enough to leave fresh eggs, bread, and other food for my stay. Perfect for someone looking for something a little more off-grid but still wanting amenities like electricity, running water, and cooking utilities. The views were fantastic and despite temperatures dropping lower than expected during my stay, there was plenty to keep me warm in the cabin. Highly recommend!

Stay at the Hideout
We booked the Hideout for a short weekend in October, and we absolutely loved it! The hosts put in so much detail to the place, including the loaf of bread and farm fresh eggs for us. The hike up to the cabin is definitely doable for all ages. I think our favorite part of the stay was the cat greeting us near the parking area and hanging out with us on the porch - he was so sweet!

Beautiful getaway spot!
This cozy A-Frame exceeded my expectations! It is tucked away on a hillside with all the amenities I could’ve possibly wanted. Beautifully decorated, the owners have thought of everything. I loved the farm fresh eggs, sweet cream butter, honey straws, and assortment of teas and coffee. Outside on the spacious deck I enjoyed relaxing by the propane fire table when it was cool. I’ll be back!
