Enjoy the scenic water & island views of the Turtle Flambeau Flowage which is a lake of approximately 14,326 acres in size, with 377 islands, & 229 miles of intricate mainland shoreline & 105 miles of island shoreline. You will have undisturbed, wooded shorelines & islands which offers the opportunity to boat, camp, fish & enjoy the outdoors in wild & rugged northern Wisconsin. Spread across 40,000 acres in Iron County, the Turtle Flambeau Scenic Waters Area offers endless fishing, hiking, biking, swimming, sunbathing, ski & snowshoe trails, & snowmobile & ATV/UTV trails. Be a part of Wisconsin’s most pristine & treasured waters & a wilderness that seems almost timeless.
The "wild & wonderful" Turtle Flambeau remains one of Wisconsin's outstanding fishing destinations. Preserved by the state, this area is a mecca to both land & water recreation. While walleye are the dominant species, trophy muskie over 50 inches have been taken. The Turtle Flambeau Flowage has often been compared to a “Canadian” wilderness experience without having to travel to Canada.
We are located in the Northern Highland-American Legion State Forest which is a Wisconsin state forest of more than 225,000 acres. Ice fishing, snowmobiling, snowshoeing, cross country skiing are only steps away from our home. You have miles of snowmobile trails right off the lake & also just as you exit our driveway.
Our home is located approximately 14.8 miles from the Town of Butternut, 17.1 miles from Town of Mercer, & 18.5 miles from Park Falls. All towns offer a variety of stores for your shopping convenience.
YOUR FOUR SEASON VACATIONLAND
If you want to drive without fighting traffic, you will enjoy sight-seeing through Iron County's miles of natural woodland wilderness. You will find new sights to see each day of your stay & in any season of the year. From the sweeping sand beaches of Saxon Harbor on Lake Superior & the rushing waterfalls of the Penokee Iron Range near Hurley, Iron Belt, & Upson, to the green forests & unspoiled lake & river country of the Mercer & Springstead resort areas, Iron County's exciting natural scenery is yours to enjoy freely & leisurely. More than 750 miles of paved highways & improved forest roads provide safe travel through every part of what is now one of the largest wilderness woodlands remaining in the Midwest.
Riotous fall colors of the forest foliage are a scenic wonder of late September & early October which attract thousands for a few days of thrilling sight-seeing & picture-taking. Nowhere else in the world is the artistry of Jack Frost so breathtaking as in the miles of hardwood forest painted in brilliant scarlet & gold.
In winter, Iron County's evergreen forest wears its mantle of deep snow in classic Christmas card scenes ready to greet you along with the ice-fishing grounds on the Turtle Flambeau Flowage. Come enjoy our four season vacationland.
