About this property

Entire place

You'll have the entire cabin to yourself and will only share it with other guests in your party.

Home for the Holiday! Log Home, Private Hot Tub, Hiking, Wildlife, Great Views

Log home perfect for family holiday gatherings in Southeast Ohio! Hot tub, fishing ponds, and hiking, all on-site! The ideal spot for a rustic, country, holiday experience.
The $150 "Host Fee" in your billing breakdown is NOT an administrative fee paid to hosts. This is how VRBO labels the Cleaning Fee. We pay our cleaners more than our listed cleaning fee to ensure the cabin is immaculate upon your arrival. Please do not misinterpret the $150 "Host Fee" as a money grab on our part.
We are excited to share our "home away from home" with you & your family. This fantastic waterfront log home is nestled on 10+ wooded acres with 2 fishing ponds. If you're looking for a great place to relax, refresh, & reconnect - this is the place you're looking for! As you arrive, you're welcomed by a partial wrap-around deck with panoramic views of the two fishing ponds just a stone's throw away. The ponds are managed fishing ponds, providing hours of fun for kids, amateur anglers, & experienced fisherfolk alike. These ponds have well-established populations of bass, bluegill, & crappie. This year we've added catfish & tilapia as well! We hope you take time to sit on the deck & watch the sunrise, sunset, & wildlife (deer, turkey, foxes, & more!) we share the land with, & maybe even see some of the fish & frogs jumping in the ponds. This is also a great property for bird watching. We regularly see hummingbirds, hawks, herons, & kingfishers along with the standard complement of neighborhood birds like cardinals, finches, woodpeckers, etc. March 2023 saw the return of a pair of Wood ducks, a pair of Mallards, & an American Bald Eagle to the Holler! There are ample opportunities for great wildlife photography!
Inside the house, you're welcomed by a spacious living room with a vaulted ceiling. Large windows provide a grand view of the ponds and the surrounding woods. Summer or winter, this is truly an amazing view! You'll also find a large wood-burning fireplace that's great for snuggling in front of.
Around the corner from the living room is the dining room. Here, you'll find a large, hand-carved wood table with 5 chairs & a bench seat for 3 to easily accommodate your family & friends. Around another corner is the mudroom with a half bath & full-sized washer & dryer. The garage door locks from both sides. The garage is off-limits to guests and should not be entered under any circumstances.
The kitchen is fully stocked with just about every pot, pan, utensil, dish, & food storage solution you could need! You'll find a Keurig coffee maker, waffle maker, sandwich maker, rice cooker, toaster oven, crock pot, & blender, along with a wall-mounted oven & microwave. The electric range top sits on a center island with a bar & stools on the other side. This is great for setting up a buffet meal or sharing conversations while preparing food.
At the other end of the house is the Bear's Den (owner's suite bedroom). Here, you'll find a luxurious king-size, hand-carved, double-rail spindle bed where you're going to want to spend your entire vacation! We've made the beds with high thread count sheets, super comfortable quilts/comforters, & pillows that cradle your head like a baby! The en suite bath contains a shower stall, toilet, & single sink vanity. Beyond the Bear's Den is the sunroom. This space is fantastic for sitting peacefully & taking in the views of the surrounding woods, wildlife, ponds, & the bed of wildflowers. You'll also find our printed house guide here as well.
Upstairs, you'll find a very large loft space designed with comfort & relaxation in mind. There's a queen bed, rocking chair, 32-inch Smart TV with DirecTV, DVD/BlueRay player with a variety of DVDs, as well as puzzles and games. Don't forget your logins for your favorite streaming services! Moving down the hall, you'll find a full bathroom with a shower/tub combo, single sink vanity, & toilet. Past that are the Bullfrog Room & Heron's Nest bedrooms, each with very comfortable queen beds. The dormer window in the Bull Frog room provides a great space to sit & relax with a great view of the ponds. When it's warm out, leave the window open and listen to the bullfrogs serenade you all night long!
You'll find the Buckeye Cave in the walk-out basement offering a large entertainment space. The entertainment center has a smart HDTV with DirecTV Cable & a BlueRay/DVD player. Don't forget your logins for your favorite streaming services! On the bar, there are tabletop hockey, Close the Box, & Tic-Tac-Toe games. There's a cork dart board & washer toss game as well. Around the corner is a large play space that can be set up with the ping pong table, poker table (game surface, cards, chips included!), & chairs. There is also a mini putting green, ladder toss game, & cornhole set that can be played indoors, or feel free to take it outside & play there. If you're looking for romance, the Buckeye Cave has that, too! There's a comfortable loveseat nestled in front of the wood-burning stove. This sits next to the beautiful sliding glass doors overlooking the stocked, spring-fed ponds. Stepping through these doors brings you to the patio, where you'll find a hot tub built for 6. Hot Tub towels are located in the basket just inside the door. Keeping things convenient, there's also a full bathroom in the basement, making it simple to rinse off when getting in & out of the hot tub. Just past the hot tub, there's a fire pit in the yard. There are bundles of firewood with a starter log on the patio. One bundle is included in your booking, extra bundles can be purchased for $10 ea. You'll find camp chairs in the basement near the stairs.
As I said, this is our home away from home. We have incorporated little touches all throughout the house. We hope you enjoy finding them & appreciate how they turn this log house into a home.
In addition to all of the wonderful attributes of this home, the surrounding property is equally exciting! Did we mention the fishing? There's fishing equipment in the basement & we hope that you'll use it! There's a memory book, so please write about your fishing experience. Please feel free to send us pics with your catch, & we'll put it up on our wall of fame!
This wonderful home sits on 10 acres of wooded land. We've blazed a few trails to make for peaceful nature walks any time of year. Feel free to turn over logs and stones in the woods and see what exciting critters you can find! There's a creek that runs the length of the property & feeds the main pond. This is a great opportunity to discover all kinds of small frogs, salamanders, & birds. We've provided long-handled nets & a small bucket to help you explore & examine the creatures you find. Please be gentle with them & return them to their home. This is always a fantastic experience for kids! You'll love the sound of the bullfrogs around the ponds in the evening.
There are 3 security cameras located on the outside of the cabin. One is on the smartlock on the front door and observes the exterior of the entryway. One is at the garage door & looks down the driveway. The other is on the beam above the hot tub (on the pond side of the beam) & focuses outward on the dock & pond. This camera has the ability to reposition & view the hot tub, but we keep it focused on the pond because that's where our safety/security concern is. Please feel free to check out the camera itself. It's plain to see where the camera is focused so you can verify that it's not focused on the hot tub. There are no cameras inside the house whatsoever. The three cameras that we have only view spaces visible to the public, where there is no expectation of privacy. Your privacy is important to us, & you can expect full privacy while you stay with us. We follow VRBO's strict policies regarding cameras & we expect guests to follow them as well. We do ask that you do not make any attempts to adjust or disable the cameras. Doing so is grounds to cancel the remainder of your booking with no refund.
Locally, you'll find tons of things to do. We're only 20 minutes away from Salt Fork State Park where there are miles of hiking trails and shorelines for fishing & nature watching. The park encompasses a stunning landscape featuring forested hills, open meadows, & misty valleys decorated with winding streams. With thousands of acres of land & water, the park has something for every outdoor enthusiast. Boaters will appreciate the park's two marinas & eight launch ramps; hikers will be challenged by a trail system that offers a variety of lengths & levels of difficulty; & golfers will enjoy the top-rated 18-hole golf course. Check out the Hosak's Cave & Spring Wild Flower hikes. There's archery, boating, fishing, golf, & a great nature center to explore.
Black Bear Holler is just 30 minutes away from The Wilds, the #2 Best Safari Park in North America (according to USA Today)! Experience the Open Air Safari tour, get up close & personal with the animals on the Wildside Tour, & you can even enjoy the Winter at the Wilds tour if you're visiting between Nov-April!
45 minutes East is Senecaville Lake Park. Seneca Lake is Ohio’s third-largest inland waterway that offers a variety of fishing, boating, & water sports.
We do love dogs, however, we want to ensure that all of our guests can enjoy our property free from pet hair and dander. We regret that, as a not-pet-friendly, we're unable to support you in bringing your fur baby. If we discover animals have been brought into the cabin, there is a cleaning fee of $750/night/pet. That's not a typo, $750/night/pet. It's not easy, or cheap, to deep clean a home this size after pets have been in it!
We have included a rental agreement that reflects the terms of service for the property. Completing your booking & entering the premises acknowledges that you have read, understood, & accepted these terms of service & agree to be bound by them. Please be sure to review the rental agreement in advance of arrival.

Amazing
My husband and I absolutely loved it here! It is such a beautiful cabin and we fell in love with it from the moment we pulled in the drive. It has everything, plus more that you can even imagine. They thought of everything even down to lip balm and hair ties. The hot tub was amazing to sit in at night and enjoy all the sounds of nature, along with all the stars in the sky. It is so peaceful and relaxing. You will not want to leave. Everyday we did see some kind of wild life. The owner is amazing and did a fabulous job and is easy to correspond with. It is amazing and if we could rate it on the 5 stars it would definitely surpass it by 100.

6 early spring days at BlackBearHoller
Great family stay and play cabin. Many amenities, and host provided extras. We walked in to find: Easter eggs ready to hide for the kiddos, Gourmet Smore supplies, snack treats, popcorn, muffin mix with refrigerated ingredients, fishing supplies, hot tub, grill and great walking trail for the whole family. Kids loved the evening light show, catching fish, playing games and even got in some TV time with a Happy Feet DVD. Streaming music and places to hide and read are also available. Gaming in the basement was a big hit, especially the little Putt-Putt for the kiddos. Kudos to the Hosts for going all in to make our stay at BlackBearHoller relaxing and enjoyable.

Wonderful home away from home
We loved the property and appreciate how clean and festive it was upon our arrival. The kitchen had everything you could ever need and we loved the smores basket! Once we got the fireplace in motion we enjoyed a fire in it every day we were there along the outside fire ring by the hot tub. We had an amazing Thanksgiving vacation and would certainly come again. It would be nice for some high traffic carpeting in the basement :) to help cozy it up since there’s no tv in the main floor of the house.

A perfect getaway
The cabin delivered all I expected and more. Beautiful decorated with a comfy black bear theme, this cabin was a perfect setting for a family getaway. There is such attention to detail from the toiletries to the s'mores kit to the fishing rods/tackle/bait to a stocked spice cabinet to family indoor/outdoor games etc. I could go on and on. Whether the weather is sunny, raining, snowing etc this little piece of heaven has something to offer. Greg even messaged us about the meteor shower and where to look for it on Saturday evening. A great friend and family getaway! Highly recommend.

A wonderful cabin and location
Let me start with location. We were 25 minutes or less from all the places we wanted to visit. (i.e. -Weasel Boy brewing, The Wilds and Salt Fork State Park. The cabin was outfitted with everything you needed. A well stock kitchen, plenty of bathrooms, comfortable beds and a hot tub with each seated jetted differently. The porch overlooking the pond was great for evening get togethers. The pond was well stocked with fish and was the highlight for my grandson. The firepit was enjoyable for late night adult beverages and Smores making. Our whole weekend was a total joy. Greg was quick to respond and very helpful when we needed to make changes. I highly recommend this cabin.

Check-in/checkout was easy and the communication of local places to check out by Greg was very much appreciated. The house was super cute. It was decorated with a black bear and woods theme. All the amenities were an awesome plus! The beds were so comfy (I purchased the same bed the day we got home). The linens were great! The kitchen was stocked with everything you could ask for. Pots, pans, crockpot, awesome tumblers, coozies, paper towels, napkins, tissues, all utensils you need. There were a plethora of K-cups, creamer, tea bags, honey and hot chocolate (We were all surprised). The cupboards were completely stocked with every seasoning you need to cook with. (We had packed our own and were surprised they were provided) A "smores making station" stocked with chocolate, marshmallows, Graham crackers and a "menu" of different types of smores we could make. The large, rustic dining room table provided ample room for many hours of food, fun and games. The master bath also had amenities supplied I would've never expected. For example, there was contact solution and case, deodorant, lotions, toothbrushes, toothpaste, sunscreen and the shower had built-in shampoo, conditioner and shower gel dispensers. The towels and washcloths were brand new and very soft. The laundry room came with a plenty of detergents and softeners. Ironing board and iron. There was a portable propane fire pit which was nice to be able to move to different locations (also brand new). The brand new outdoor
