The town is close to so many fantastic places such as Penola, Coonawarra wineries, national park and beaches at Southend and Beachport. "Quiet and peaceful. Rustic charm with almost everything that was required. The cons were that the heating/cooling system was very noisy and drowned out the TV whenever it cut in. The shower was barely adequate due to water pressure and being over the bath entirely unsuitable for elderly or disabled. The mattresses are VERY firm resulting in poor, uncomfortable sleep so we left property a day earlier than planned. "The meals were very generous and good pub fare. The room was not heated at all, so be aware in winter it's cold!! An electric blanket would have been helpful. That said, the blankets were warm. Wifi didn't work in the rooms, so we weren't able to watch anything or plan the next day (no tv). Wifi worked in the shared lounge and in the bar. It was clearly a grand hotel in its day, nice that not too much has been modernised. "

"We were met at the gate by Sophie, property manager, who took us on a tour through her beautiful gardens and who was kind, welcoming and helpful throughout our four night stay. Jam, milk, cofee and tea were provided for us. The cottage is clean and well set out, with the second bed being a sofa bed which was suitable for one daughter but wouldn't have suited both.
