John Peel, the famous huntsman of the 1700's was born just outside of Caldbeck and the area maintains many links to his hunting heritage with the village church being his final resting place. The Caldbeck fells offer walkers the opportunity to explore the less frequented parts of the Lake District but still promises stunning vistas, Bassenthwaite Lake and Derwentwater along with the Solway Coast are just a few of the views you can expect to see on your adventures. Hesket Newmarket and Uldale are both within a 10 minute drive and have their own village inns and Bassenthwaite and Lake Ullswater are both a 20 minute drive. Caldbeck is a short drive from Carlisle, Penrith and Keswick for those who enjoy retail therapy and is the perfect base from which to explore the northern Lake District, Eden Valley and Hadrian's Wall.
