Take a boat, buggy or quad bike ride to this isolated beach and be amazed by its gorgeous blue-green sea and multicolored cliffs.

Discover your sense of adventure by visiting Carro do Quebrado Beach (Praia do Carro Quebrado). Swim, sunbathe and snap memorable photos away from large tourist crowds. Marvel at the dramatic landscapes and learn about the curious myth behind the beach’s name. Carro do Quebrado Beach curves gently for about 4 miles (6 kilometers) along a deserted stretch of the Alagoas coastline.

The excitement begins as soon as you start your journey to the beach, which features a drive on a winding dirt road framed by thick coconut groves. Rent either a buggy or a quad bike or join a guided tour by buggy or boat. It’s worth going with a guide as the area has limited signposts. Stop at the Carro do Quebrado Beach Lookout to get your first glimpse of the glistening water and sheer cliffs.

Step onto the soft sand and experience instant relaxation. Stroll along the seashore, gaze up at the cliffs and spot fallen palm trees. The picturesque landscape presents many excellent photo opportunities. Natural pools appear when the tide is out and are perfect for bathing. At high tide the beach is often completely covered in water.

Bring a picnic to enjoy on the sand and at the rustic tables. You can also purchase drinks, snacks and seafood dishes at simple food stands. Some of the stands have areas with hammocks for you to lie back and view the scenery.

Look for the rusty and dilapidated Volkswagen Beetle cars. The beach’s name means broken car in English. One local legend states that a couple abandoned their car after it got stuck in the sand here and it corroded during high tide.

Praia do Carro Quebrado is north of Crôa Island, in the municipality of Barra de Santo Antônio. Drive here from Maceió in about an hour. Buggy rentals are available in Barra de Santo Antônio and organized day tours depart from Maceió.
