Unspoiled getaway, superb ocean views house in a natural area

At the head of an untouched valley some 200m above sea, 'Lugar pequeno' is located in a place of privilege in the small hamlet of Golmar. The house, fully equipped and carbon-neutral, is the owners' summer home. It fusions tradition and family memories with a modern touch. All rooms and garden enjoy impressive ocean views over a green valley, forest and some 80Km of virgin Atlantic coast. The house’s unique location make the clean views over the unspoiled rural valley a natural extension of the garden. It receives sunlight from dawn to sunset. Within a Natural area, part of the EU network "Natura 2000", you will enjoy complete peacefulness, being only at 4 Km distance to the fishing town of Cedeira, with shops, all services, lovely beach and seaport, and very good tapas restaurants.

Nearby, you will enjoy some of the best sandy virgin beaches in Europe and outstanding hiking paths from the house through the forest, cliffs, the lighthouse.... Other activities, like surfing, via ferrata, horse riding,, e-bikes or kayak are available in the area.

Beaches: You can choose among beaches with extensive dunes and wonderful views (Vilarube), calm water (A Magdalena) or high waves (Pantin, Baleo) , birdwatching or kite-surfing(Frouxeira), etc. Cala Sonreiro is the hidden cove beach closer to the house, near to 'Castillo de La Concepción' (ancient fort defending Cedeira´s harbour).
In summer, “Pantin classic” is a well-known qualifying series of the world surfing championship.
Last weekend of June local ranchers gather hundreds of wild horses in Capelada mountains (12Km away), to haircut and deworming horses, branding foals born in springtime and trading some of them. A small fair and lively lunch accompanies these activities.

Excursions : Other interesting spots to visit (within less than one-hour drive) are, driving East, Estaca de Bares Cape, Ortigueira, O Barqueiro and Viveiro and, driving West, the Natural Park Fragas do Eume, Pontedeume or St. Felipe castle in Ferrol.

The cities of A Coruña or Santiago de Compostela, are excellent options for a day excursion (at 75 and 90 min-drive). Santiago is a must, its medieval centre is UNESCO´s world heritage, with the impressive cathedral (tomb of the apostle St. James) has been pilgrimage destination for centuries. A Coruña, financial centre of Galicia and home of the biggest Spanish fashion firm, Zara, and the well-know beer "Estrella Galicia", is a lively city with a wide range of cultural, gastronomic and shopping possibilities, as well as a very nice old medieval quarter and marina. Inland, Lugo (100 min. drive) is an ancient city surrounded by an impressive complete Roman wall (walking circular path of some 2 Km on the wall). Its charming old town includes a XII century cathedral, a baroque town hall and lovely squares and alleys.

How to get to: Flights to the airports of Santiago de Compostela (SCQ) or A Coruna (LCG) are often available. The 1.15 hour or 1.30 hour drive from A Coruña or Santiago airports is a pleasure in itself.

Fantastic views and peaceful
Fantastic views in house in need of updating in some areas and better cleaning. Owners communicated well and were helpful. They explained they had new cleaner which does not excuse the somewhat lacking cleaning job.

Quiet getaway
The description given in the anouncement is rather complete and to he point. So, the view from the house is indeed very stunning, its interior is rather comfortable, tasteful, and fully equipped (including also a clothes washer, and even a selection of DVDs, CDs, and a small spanish / english library). According to our view, up to four adults might live in the house together with up to three children. The only and very small negative point with respect to the house concerns cleanliness, that reached only 95 points of 100. The next city Cedeira is in a 5 minutes driving distance through an eucalyptus forest. The people there (and also in Golmar) are very friendly, the price level in the restaurants is low, the quality, however, high. In one of the cafes, fast access to the internet is possible (at a price of about 50 c / 30 min). As for the sea and the weather, we were a little bit surprised by the low water temperature (below 20 °C). Nevertheless, swimming is possible. Cloudy and rainy days occur from time to time, a sun protection level higher than 30 is nevertheless recommended.

Gorgeous!
We loved it here..the west view over the sea is amazing and creates the most wonderful light over the ocean which is constantly changing. The hosts were extremely helpful and the house is perfectly set up for a family.. we all felt so relaxed and we enjoyed trips to the local cove beach and other surrounding beaches. It’s very quiet too and we used the Gaddis supermarket in Cedeira for food etc.. I would thoroughly recommend this accommodation for a relaxing and peaceful break. You definitely need a car to get around. 👍😉☺️

Beautiful house on beautiful spot
The house has stunning views over the surrounding area. This can be appreciated from multiple rooms in the house as well as when eating dinner in front of the house. The house is a nice mix between traditional build and comfort. We hope to come back some day! Nb When in town be sure to check out Kilowatio for dinner!

Paradise on the Galicia Coast
They use to think the coastline of the Galicia region was the end of the world…really, it’s a universe to awaken your five senses. This is the “perfect perch” to rest, read, relax and daydream. As the days melted by, we did ultimately leave to explore our local area of Cedeira, the Santiago de Compostela and the Praia das Catadrais. However, our happiest days were just staying on this beautiful property gazing at the ocean and exploring Cedeira...such a quaint town. The Galicia region is filled with forests of infinite shades of green, lighthouses of hope, stony “punta” coasts with wide coves of beach and the beautiful songs of the nightingale birds. The owners of this serene home definitely paid attention to detail with fine furnishings, stocked kitchen and plenty of comfortable linens. Most important to us was the electric heaters and great fireplace, since it did get chilly at night while we were there. They were very attentive to all our questions upon our arrival. They even provided additional firewood via a neighbor - so very kind. If you are going to the Galicia Region, this is the place to stay. BOOK NOW!

a little slice of heaven
We spent 3 days at this beautiful home... and of course, hated to leave. The house is absolutely amazing - stocked with everything you could possibly need for a comfortable and memorable stay, beautifully furnished, with breathtaking views of the sea and surrounding areas. The village/hamlet that the house is in is great for a quiet and relaxing getaway. The area around the house is great for hiking, photography, or just to take a walk within nature. Oh, and just when we thought it couldn't get any better, we saw wild horses! The town of Cedeira is a short drive from the house. There, you can find restaurants, bars, shopping and a grocery store (supermarket) with a wide selection of food items to purchase if you wish to cook at home (which we did for several meals). You won't want to leave!

Galician Idyll
There were 6 of us (3 couples) from the UK. We spent 2 weeks in this very lovely house. The location was superb with views over the sea. The house was well appointed with all that you could possibly need for a great holiday. Everything worked as it ought to and provided a fabulous base from which we could explore the immediate and wider locality of Northern Spain. The local walking is excellent through eucalyptus forests; wider afield there are coastal pathways overlooking magnificent scenery. The local town provides everything would need with good supermarkets, fresh food shops and of course plenty of fresh fish of all descriptions. We visited one or two of the restaurants and found them very good indeed. The local tourism office is extremely helpful. We should definitely come back another time.

Aardige eigenaren. Kortom: zeer fijn huis!!

Beautiful harmony and challenging activities in Galicia
For us it was well worth the long trip to Galicia and the wonderful house of Macarena located "at the end of the world". The mix of challenging activities eg. surfing, hiking and biking with relaxing moments in the peaceful and scenic village of Golmar was perfect for us. We´ll be back! /Olov with family from Sweden

Wonderful fortnight
We really enjoyed our fortnight stay at Lugar Pequeno, a wonderful house high in the hills above Cedeira. The views are magnificent and the afternoons and early evenings get lots of sunshine; all very quiet and peaceful. The property is well appointed and everything works! We brought our bikes with us and cycled every day - the roads are quiet and there are some great, though very hilly, rides in this part of Galicia. Stage 4 of the 2016 Vuelta came through Cedeira and finished above San Andres de Teixido, a sanctuary which is well worth a visit. Cedeira itself is a nice town, with lots of good cafes and restaurants. A Coruna is an hour or so away in the car and well worth a visit; we stayed there one night and then took the train to Santiago (30 minutes by train from A Coruna) for a short visit, an arrangement that worked well for us. So, five stars from us.

Lugar Pequeno: beautiful house, stunning views
The house is beautifully presented and very comfortable. We found that everything we needed for our stay was to hand. The views from the terrace across the garden to the ocean are magnificent. The location is peaceful but relatively accessible (car required, winding uphill road through forest). There are many beautiful beaches within a short drive, and the attractive town of Cedeira offers numerous cafes, bars and restaurants as well as shops, banks etc. Recommended.

Lovely views from a fine building
Grand three level very modern house. Well equipped. Lovely views down the valley to the sea below (house is about 600' up above) and wide ranging coastal vista to headlands in the distance.

So Sad To Leave!
We've stayed in many a vacation rental and most have been positive experiences, to varying degrees. This Galician gem will certainly forever be at the top of our list of favorites and we were really, really sad to leave. The house is fabulous - everything to the highest standard of aesthetic and comfort. The location is to live for! A little tricky sometimes negotiating the narrow curving roads, but worth every ounce of trepidation because it is all worth it! The owners were wonderful in their communications and responsiveness. Galicia is a most special place and Cedeira (we never could pronounce it to the satisifaction of our Galician acquaintances) isj dreamy - it's of another time, and the time we prefer - slow, gentle, and welcoming. Don't miss Pepe and his Taberna o Puntal just outside of town! Tell him the folks from New Mexico sent you! We will probably never return, but we shall never forget! Thank you, Macarena, for sharing your beautiful home with us!

Cosy haven from the storms
Very comfortable and well equipped home with essential log fire (in November) as the weather was "a bit moist"; fantastic lounge to watch the storms over the ocean from the warmth and safety of a soft sofa.

An outstanding house
The house is great located with lovingly decorated rooms. If you want to get away from it all and to be surrounded by a magnificent nature you will find it here. In case of a drizzly day you will feel in this home at home. Don´t hesitate to spend your holiday in this house in Golmar /Cedeira.

Spectacular Home
The listing description was very accurate regarding the location, layout and facilities. Actually the pictures don't do the house justice. The house and the setting was much more beautiful in real life. We were in awe over the setting. The view of the ocean from the house was mesmerizing. We were glued to the sunsets over the water. The property was very clean and well-maintained. I would certainly return to the house and would recommend this property to a friend or relative. We vlsited the town of Cedeira regularly. Went to San Andres de Texeido - the drive of which was fantastic with all the pine trees and wild horses. We also went to Santiago de Compustela, Lugo, A Acoruna. There are many other places we would have like to explore but didn't have time. Perhaps next time. The food I fell in love with was Zortha and cannot find a recipe here for it. I'll just have to return to Galicia. The weather was perfectly warm. We were lucky.

Lovely house in peaceful location
The house was exactly as it appears in the photos ; a fusion of old and new, very clean and in a tranquil setting. We had a great time relaxing in the galleried sitting area ,the view and sunsets are amazing. The house also has a well equipped kitchen and plenty of games, tv/dvd to keep children amused on the days when the weather isn't great. There was plenty of information on the local and surrounding areas. The nearby town of Cedeira has supermarkets, bakers etc.. and a pleasant safe beach, ideal for smaller children. There are also many excellent beaches a further 10-30 mins away. For those wanting to eat out the nearest restaurants are in Cedeira. We ate at Badulaque and a little taverna (it's up a little alley) plus the pizzeria by the waterfront,we sampled some good fish dishes. Over all this is a great location for a relaxing, away from the crowds holiday.

Staying at Lugar Pequeno
This is a very special, quiet spot, in the hamlet of Golmar, with the most astonishing view from the side of the valley out to the sea. The sunsets are particularly special. The house is well-equiped and very comfortable - and the arrangement of the upper sitting room, with the large Galician windows is excellent for reading or spending time. We made visits to the outstanding local beaches and to towns and villages. We would recommend the property very highly to anyone wanting to mix a peaceful base with exploring Galicia.
