This is a gem of a place to stay, with a dock and 2 kayaks for use on Squam Lake. My family of 4 adults and 2 children under the age of 10 stayed here comfortably for 4 days. We spent lots of time sitting on the dock (chairs provided), swimming in the clear-to-the-bottom lake, and exploring the huge lake and its many islands in our kayaks. The small cove the cottage occupied, had a sandy bottom, which was a plus for us! When inside the cottage, there were lots of large windows looking out onto the water, and our favorite room was the porch, the next best place to be without being outdoors, with its cross breezes from the 3 walls of screened windows.
The cottage was immaculate, with an efficient kitchen which was well stocked with everything we needed for cooking in. One night we used their outdoor grill. There is no dishwasher here, but a clean double sink was nice for quick clean-ups - I had no complaints here. The cottage had pine panelled walls and all hardwood floors, and a pretty stone fireplace - a classy rustic feel! The 3 bedrooms were very comfortable, with excellent mattresses for sleeping on. And there was comfy seating in the living room, and on the porch for the grandparents! We played many card games here, and had a decent choice of board games too.
There are several good restaurants in the area too. And lots of choices for easy to difficult hikes - we did the easy hike on West Rattlesnake Trail which had a huge reward at the top, of the entire Squam Lake. We sat on the boulder top and enjoyed lunch and view.
I would highly recommend this place for anyone who wants a peaceful retreat on the beautiful Squam Lake, which is unlike nearby Lake Winnipisauki in that there are very few motorboats on Squam, keeping it serene and easy to kayak or canoe on.
