I stayed for 2 nights for a wedding. The staff work incredibly hard and the food is excellent. Rooms are a little dated and heating was all or nothing but it didn't greatly impact my stay.

The staff were excellent, professional and helpful. Keith was amazing as wedding coordinator/liaison. Andrew and Sean at Reception were great. There was also a young lady in the restaurant, (young with strawberry blonde hair)unfortunately i didn't get her name, but she was wonderful. My only recommendation would be that it is sometimes the "little things" that can detract from excellence. That said an ancient building must require continuous maintenance. All in, I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND Lumley Castle Hotel.

This is a lovely hotel with a wealth of history and about the only fault I can find with it is the relatively expensive but poor quality breakfast.

Went here for 60th birthday celebration, we got in room early it was very nice intentional old fashioned feel. Stayed in castle part of building very quiet room, very warm. Had a few drinks and a bar snack at library bar very nice drinks later and the first round was on hotel for my birthday staff were excellent even got a late checkout. Fantastic day at Lumley Castle.

This was our 2nd visit to Lumley Castle. We stayed in the courtyard again, but this time the room was on the ground floor. It was a much better room for us, my partner struggled with how dusty the room was last time as it had ceiling beams, this room had less places for it to collect so his allergies weren't triggered. Its a great place to stay, the staff are hardworking and friendly. The breakfast is fresh and hot. Theres plenty of parking, and its a fairly quiet place to stay. You can hear floorboards creaking when people are walking around but thats about it. We'll definitely be back as its such as good base to go exploring.

Loved the location and the building itself. Staff service was really excellent and we enjoyed the food we had: breakfast, dinner and sharing platter in the bar. Our room was clean and serviced daily but the bathroom was really in need of attention. There was mould in parts of the shower, and it all looked rather tired and worn.

If you fancy sleeping like a medieval king or queen then this is the place for you. We were in a room up umpteen concrete steps and then a narrow concrete spiral staircase to a room smelling of cigarettes and dull as hell. Not for me, left a day early. Seriously if you have mobility problems get a court yard room

We liked the setting and the look of the castle we thought the breakfast was very good and also the staff were very Welcoming and Helpful . We felt the room was very tired looking, we were very cold in the room and had to resort to sitting with the fan heater on that was in the wardrobe , not Really acceptable for 2024 but we had very pleasant stay non the less .

Enjoyed our stay. Most of the staff were friendly and helpful and the castle was full of interest and quirky features. Main negatives were the narrow stone spiral staircase up to our room which was ill lit and hard to negotiate with luggage ( thats after going up external stone stairs to 1st floor level !), and the really dim poor lighting in the room itself. Would definitely stay again, but choose a different room.

The castle was so quirky and interesting. It was a bit tight in some areas on my mobility scooter inside, but what would you expect from a 600 yr old building! The staff were so accommodating and helpful, we cant fault them at all there is a disability lift so we could explore the 1st floor halls.. The grounds are beautiful and mostly accessible, I took one area that aas a little optimistic but most pathways and roads are smooth surfaced, we had some lovely walks after breakfast. The meals in the library were fabulous, try the Castle Club House sandwich, but get one to share its huge. The breakfasts are fabulous and offer great value and choice. Again, the staff were 1st class. We stayed in the courtyard rooms, the rooms are quaint and very quiet. Its also a brilliant base to explore the aurrpunding areas, we visited Seaham, which was so easy to negotiate on my scooter, lots of dropped kerbs, flat pavements and pedestrianised areas, it made a refreshing change. The slope from the harbour was a bit steep for my little mobility scooter, however, there is lots of parking, clean toilet facilities and a lift to enable access to the raised cafe overlooking the sea. We also visited the Botanic Gardens in Durham, these are beautiful, but access can be difficult for wheelchair and scooter users once you get beyond the cafe patio area. We will definitely visit Lumley Castle again.
