Huge 5 BR Home // Private Yard // Walk Everywhere // Parking for 2 Cars

Walk to everything Chicago has to offer- downtown, beach, park, restaurants and bars; bring family or friends to this three level home on a quiet neighborhood street. Free parking, back yard, laundry on premises, pets welcome- what else can you possibly need?

Our ideal guests have been groups who want to splurge on premium location and lots of space. This is not a suburban family home nor a resort hotel. This is an original, vintage and quirky Old Town home. We are not offering high end modern amenities or spa level luxury. There are plenty hotels in Chicago that do. What we are offering is truly unique- a spacious home in the heart of the city.

LAYOUT:
The house consists of a duplex up and a fully finished basement level, 3 floors total. There is no internal staircase between the lower level and the two upper floors. You will need to go outside up a few steps to move between those spaces. Main level and upper floor have an internal staircase. It is also immediately behind a train line.

Main floor: a large living room and a dining room as one open floor plan, bathroom (toilet and sink), kitchen, and an amazing covered porch with access to the back yard. The kitchen has a stove, oven, dishwasher, microwave, and a bar-style seating area. It is fully stocked if you wish to cook, host, or just eat take out food with real silverware and dishware.

Second floor: two large bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms and a third cozy bedroom.

Lower level: two bedrooms, large living/dining room combo, another kitchen and a full bath. The kitchen has a stove, oven, microwave. Also fully stocked.

OTHER AMENITIES:
• 2 washers and 2 dryers
• air conditioning and central heat throughout.
• detached 2 car garage
• free WiFi throughout the property.

bedroom 4, lower level: queen-size bed
bedroom 5, lower level: 2 queen-size beds
lower level living room: 2 double futons
Bedrooms 1 and 3 each have a small double futon that can be opened up. 4 single (sleeps 1 each) floor mattresses and a crib are available in the closet. Clean bedding is provided.

EXTRAS:
• late check out at 1 pm - $125
• early check-in at 1 pm - $125
• daily housekeeping- $40 per day
• worry free cleaning package- $125. This covers any and all cleaning. Just walk out in the morning (you do need to move furniture back if you make any changes to layout). Note that this fee is additional to my regular cleaning fee.

ACCESSIBILITY:
8 steps up to the front door, 15 steps from the main level to second, 5 down to the lower level from the street.

WORRY FREE CLEANING PACKAGE:
At check out you will need to take care of trash overflow, dishes, exuberant messes and any food you brought. The worry free package covers any and all cleaning. Just walk out in the morning (you do need to move furniture back if you make any changes to layout). Note that this fee is additional to my regular cleaning fee you pay when you book the place. This package is best for those who want to decorate, cook a lot, are traveling as a group and would rather split the extra fee than worry about anything in the morning.

HOUSE RULES:
Unregistered guests are not allowed on the property. The presence of more than 22 guests is unlawful. A guest is anyone at the property, staying the night, or just visiting. Minors need to have a responsible adult present. Primary booker is required to stay on the property and provide an ID. IDs will need to be provided prior to your arrival for everyone spending any time at the property for reservations made less than 30 days in advance. This includes overnight guests or any visitors. There is a counter installed. I utilize a private security firm. If the counter shows more than the registered number of people or if I get a noise complaint from neighbors, security will be immediately dispatched. A $200 dispatch fee will be charged from your security deposit. Should they be unsuccessful in removing you from the premises, they will involve the police. This is not a place for a local house party.

ABOUT THE AREA:
The house is in east Old Town- best neighborhood in Chicago for both families or if you are looking to have fun. While the street itself is very quiet, tree lined and barely has cars passing by, as soon as you turn the corner, you are in the center of everything! Lincoln Park with the zoo, farm, pond, open spaces and farmers market is a 7-10 min. walk. North avenue beach is the same distance. It is perfect for walks, picnics, boat rides or good old fun in the sand. The beaches are free to the public and have breathtaking city views. Grocery shopping is made easy, seeing as Dom Market and Jewel are located right in the neighborhood. Nearby coffee shops include a 24 hour Starbucks and La Fournette. There are 103 restaurants within a 15 minute walk including some of Chicago's top restaurants including Kamehachi, Topo Gigio, Happy Camper, The Fireplace Inn, and Woodies Flat. Bars and lounges are abundant on Wells and are all 1-2 minute walk. Shopping in Old Town is a unique experience; the majority of shops in this neighborhood are boutiques rather than well-known chain stores. Therefore, each and every store is cozy, intimate and filled with one-of-a-kind goods. The Lincoln Park Zoo is a world of wildlife in the shadow of skyscrapers. Located within a verdant park just minutes north of Chicago, the zoo has been a natural, free oasis for generations of animal lovers, who visit the zoo to hear a lion’s roar echo off nearby apartment buildings, see gorillas climb trees as the Willis Tower looms in the distance, or forget where they are as they immerse themselves in tropical rainforests, dry-thorn forests or spacious savannas. We invite you to visit the wildest spot in Chicago, where each year millions of guests marvel at wild wonders as they play and learn. Free and open every day of the year, Lincoln Park Zoo has something for everyone. Meet animals from around the world, relax among Chicago’s most-visited gardens and join us for exciting daily programs and events. The Steppenwolf Theater, located just a few blocks away from the property, operates as a not-for-profit organization relying on community support to produce, presents up to 16 plays and nearly 700 performances, readings and other events every year on three stages. The theater’s artistic and educational programs draw a multi-generational audience of nearly 200,000 from the greater metropolitan Chicago area, while their impact reaches well beyond this region with productions that tour nationally and internationally. The Second City is another nearby theater that specializes in sketch comedy and improv, and has been delighting audiences for over 50 years. They have had many famous comedians perform at the theater over the years. They have comedy shows seven nights a week on 4 stages; the shows consist of short scenes, songs, and improvised comedy sketches. Cocktails and food are available throughout the show. Get ready to laugh! Oak street and beginning of Michigan avenue is about 15-20 minute walk.

GETTING AROUND:
The house is a six minute walk from the Brown Line and the Purple Line at the Sedgwick stop and an eight minute walk from Red line at Clark. It takes be about 15 min to walk to Michigan Ave and Wells street bars are a minute away. Buses and cabs are also easily accessible. It is about a 3 minute drive to get onto Lake Shore drive at LaSalle and about 8 minutes to Kennedy expressway at North Avenue.

The house is best for bachelor, bachelorette and friend groups as well as business travelers. It is not child proof.

Overall a great place to stay. Location is really great. You can walk to all of Old Town. Well equipped property. As the only member of our group that drove, was nice to have a garage!

Great location for larger group
Was perfect for our needs. Isn’t high end home- but is decorated nicely, inside was clean and housed our large party. Close walking distance to many great spots. Cute backyard add porch. Near the train, but we enjoyed seeing it pass by and the noise didn’t bother us much.

Disappointing
The location was good. The train noise was known and didn't disappoint. The house accommodates 22, but only if prepared to have multiple people sharing. Otherwise it has 4 double rooms and 1 very single bed room. And living rooms with futons for overflow. The host was quite antagonist over the review of ID's pre check in. I received confrontational texts regarding the process to upload ID's. The platform did not have the plus sign to upload photo ID's. I was wanting assistance on how to supply the photos and was informed that as I was having trouble, it might be worthwhile me finding a hotel instead, and hoping i had insurance to cover my costs. A bizarre comment when i had fully paid and was simply needing assistance to supply the required iD's. We were threatened that no guest was allowed in the house without providing ID's and that a door counter was present ensuring that no more than 22 people be allowed inside. If more than 22 people entered we would be visited by security at an added cost. We abided by ALL the rules. Only to be hit up by another cost 2 weeks after leaving. One guest had arrived from an international destination at 1pm and asked the cleaners to leave their bags. We have been now hit with an early arrival fee. This host has been a nightmare. We had a second house of similar size and standard in Lincoln park, and the experience was completely different. The house was suitable, the host caused great stress and undue anxiety. Very disappointing.

Great location, a few caveats
The location was phenomenal, we walked to the zoo, the beach, 2 different L stations, 2 different grocery stores, parks, and plenty of restaurants, bars, and coffee shops. The house was clean, and the kids with us loved the handful of toys in the house. As described, it's near the L, which we were worried about the nose, but it wasn't as loud as the air conditioner in the living room that was extra loud. The house had a few issues on our check in day, but the owner was amazingly responsive trying to get them all resolved as fast as possible. Overall it was great for a large group, with plenty of chairs and a huge table we all did around, but the galley kitchen wasn't a chef's kitchen, it worked for basic breakfasts but got quickly crowded trying to cook an actual meal on the main floor because you have to walk through the kitchen to get to the backyard and lovely sunroom/deck. The basement kitchen is tiny, fine for basics, but definitely not a kitchen for chefs. The house is older and has some quirks to be expected with such. The bedrooms have sheer curtains, so the sun wakes you early if you're in the room at the front of the house. If you are looking for a great location to explore Chicago without needing a car, and are ok with fun old houses, this is your place. If you need everything to be perfectly new and modern, and would be bothered by small things like mismatched grout colors, this is not the place for you.

NO KA OI (Da Best!) Stay!!!
Great communication! we've stayed at VRBO all over the nation for volleyball teams but she's the FIRST EVER to come meet and greet us! She kept in constant almost daily emails checking up on us to see if we had everything we needed! The location was great for the Navy Pier VB tournament and if you ever stay for the Arts Festival - GREAT locale! Felt very safe walking around the area to coffee shops, parks, etc. Lots of beds, lots of towels! Kitchen layout great! Having upstairs and downstairs fridges helped with storing food for later meals! Am looking forward to booking this location when we come back in the future for upcoming Navy Pier VB Tournaments! Mahalo!

Host Very Challenging
This is not a great property. The host is very challenging to work with. During our stay the host had other workers entering the property grounds with us knowing causing safety concerns. I raised this issue with the host and she just blow me off. The house is not a 5 bedroom 4 bath. It is 3 bedroom in the main house and an a seperate apartment that you have to leave the house to get too. The home is old and the shower in the apartment does not get cold. I informed the host of this. After all of here outside workers had been on the grounds I didn’t want anyone else accessing the home.

If you like to be woken every ten minutes by the L
and stay in what looks like a crack house from the outside, this property is for you. The prettied up photos do not accurately convey the shoddy experience you are about to have at this property. When you roll up with your guests, you will first be greeted by severely peeling paint all over the front of the house and the stairs, showing the avoidance of basic maintenance that the owners put in. The issues don't stop there. As others have mentioned, the AC noise precludes having a conversation in the main living area. How about changing some filters, host? The curtain rods are loose and ready to fall down and smash someone's head. The hot water is good for 10-15 min before turning ice cold...how does that work for "sleeps up to 16"? There are side panels held up with scotch tape (VRBO has no way to attach photos of all the above, but trust me I have them). Finally, the garage door was incredibly unreliable and janky, giving up the ghost when I tried to press the button to close it. Instead of apologizing for the obviously weather corroded, beyond service life doors (I have the photos to prove), she tried to say it was "user error" because I pressed the button to close the garage door and it fell apart. Wow, the gall. Alas...it gets worse. The L literally shakes the lower rooms, the light of train shooting thru the master bedroom's cheap transparent curtains and the sound torturing all of your guests awake every 5-10 min. You were warned.

I was on a youth trip with teens from my church, learning and doing service projects around Chicago. This was a perfect home base for us to come back to and hang out. Space was comfortable for youth and adult chaperones. Easy to access from the L or to drive - having a garage was a huge plus! (though it was a tight fit for a mini van + a small SUV - but I suppose that can only be expected from a place in the city like this)
