College Park Airport was founded in 1909 as a place to instruct the first military aviators. These pilots were instructed by none other than Wilbur Wright, who along with his brother Orville, invented the world’s first successful airplane.
The museum is home to a variety of antique and reproduction aircraft. Take a look at the replica of a 1910 Wright Model B, which was the first of the Wright brothers’ designs to be built in large quantities. Explore the history of aviation through a variety of interactive exhibits. The museum frequently hosts special events, lectures and workshops for the public. If you want to learn more, visit the on-site library which has archives relating to the history of the airport, early aviation and air travel in Maryland.
