A stunning permanent collection of American and European modernist artworks fill the brightly painted, period-themed galleries. Art from the early modernist period is hung in asymmetric rows to the ceiling, the traditional salon-style hang. See works by some of the greatest artists of the 19th and 20th centuries, such as Picasso, Cézanne, Degas, Matisse and Monet. The museum also holds a burgeoning contemporary art collection and a photography gallery with images from the late 19th century through to current times.

Perusing all these masterpieces may inspire your artistic side, so head to the museum’s centre for creativity. A range of temporary exhibitions, community and educational workshops and art classes take place here every day. The Columbus Museum of Art may be small by comparison to its sister museums in Toledo and Cleveland, but it has a full and wide-ranging programme for social and educational opportunities. There is a fee to enter the museum special rates apply for students, children and visitors over 60. Take advantage of the museum’s free admission on Sundays or enjoy an evening activity during late opening times on Thursdays. The museum is closed on Mondays and public holidays.
