Find a glimpse of Whidbey Island as it was at the turn of the century here at the Fort Casey Inn, where this duplex home sits in a lovely position overlooking Admiralty Bay. It's a wonderful home base for days spent hiking, beachcombing, and exploring the island's countless beauties.

The Fort Casey Inn dates back to 1909, with its cottages once serving as quarters for non-commissioned officers at neighboring Fort Casey. Today, the adjacent Fort Casey State Park is one of the most gorgeous spots on Whidbey Island, with its bunkers and batteries, a lovely lighthouse, driftwood-strewn beaches, and awe-inspiring sunset views of the Olympic Mountains across the water. You can walk to the Coupeville Ferry Dock (which connects to Port Townsend) and drive to the Ebey's Landing Bluff Trail (three miles) and picturesque downtown Coupeville (four miles) in a matter of minutes.

As part of the inn, this two-story home enjoys access to grills and picnic tables on the grounds. If you're traveling with a group, the meeting space at Garrison Hall is even available for gatherings and retreats.

As you come home from a day of activity, pause on the front porch and linger with a cold drink and a sweeping view. Inside, you'll be greeted by a comfortable living room warmed by a gas fireplace, an eat-in country kitchen, and two bedrooms and a bathroom upstairs. Without a TV present, you'll be free to truly get in touch with your surroundings - although WiFi is provided for your convenience.

While we knew we were renting a historical venue with only basic amenities, we were disappointed with the lack of basic necessities. The rental is listed as sleeping 6, but there are only plates/dishes for 4 people. That made simple things like cooking meals very challenging. The wi-fi was very inconsistent. We thankfully brought a hot spot and needed it to be able to use our phones at all times. The tub/shower in the listing picture showed a claw foot tub with shower curtain ring above. The bathroom we had was a claw foot tub only, no shower curtain, with the spray shower head only able to be used while squatting in the tub. This was very challenging with teenage children. The rooms were clean, the venue at the time we went was very quiet as no other renters were there. Our main problem and the reason we left early was the unfortunate timing of the navy doing training exercises late into the evening and night. My two special needs children struggled with the extremely loud engine sounds and I tried to contact Vacasa on day one to get help with our reservation. I received an initial response from the regional group who said a local rep would contact me the following day. Only that never happened. After two nights of little sleep and no contact with the rental company we left early and just ate the cost. Very disappointed with the unavailability and misleading description of this Vacasa property. We love Fort Casey and will be back to visit but won’t be staying at this venue
