About this property

Entire place

You'll have the entire home to yourself and will only share it with other guests in your party.

Adirondack Lakefront Home.. Internet, Private Beach, Boats, Canoe, Kayaks.

Our lakefront home, with our own beach, is a luxurious Adirondack Lodge situated on seven very private acres. We now have a landline with unlimited local and long distance phone service, WiFi/Internet. We supply everything you need for a great vacation. Our lakefront features a beautiful sandy beach, a dock, fishing boat, a canoe, and three kayaks. We have nature trails throughout the property. You will enjoy the beauty of our peaceful lake. Take a boat out fishing, or just explore the many coves and beaches. We have outdoor grills, a big outdoor fire pit, and plenty of firewood. The Great Room features a beautiful stone fireplace, leather furniture, DirectTV, Music Channels, and DVD and VHS movies. Our new game room has a Pool Table, a Foosball Table, Electronic Dart Game, and a card table. Our kitchen features stainless steel appliances, all the conveniences of home, and a large dining table that overlooks the lake. The bedrooms and baths are well appointed and very clean, and we supply clean linens at no charge. The second floor has a fantastic view of the lake, and an outside balcony. You'll see plenty of wildlife including deer, eagles, loons, and more!

Shopping/supplies: The village of Croghan is 7 miles away and offers a Nice n Easy Grocery Shoppe that has food, camping supplies, gas, propane, souvenirs, etc. There is also Monnats IGA, a full line grocery store. The Croghan Meat Market is famous for Croghan Bologna and also offers great steaks, lobster tails, etc. Vinny's Pizza is on Main Street as well as Schultz's Restaurant. Good ol' Wishy's is a local legend, a real old fashioned ice cream parlor. The Beaver River flows through town and at one time powered the Croghan Island Mill which is still an operating lumber mill. There's a nice park in town with a playground, tennis court, ball diamonds, etc. Croghan is famous for Maple Syrup and is home of the American Maple Museum on Main Street. The Northern New York Railroad Museum is also on Main Street as is Stumps Laundramat, a Liquor Store, and Video Rental, Monnat - Nortz Mobil is a full service gas station on Main Street. Buckingham Hardware on Main is also an Outdoor Sports Store.

Effley Falls Reservoir: Effley Falls Reservoir is part of the Beaver River Canoe Route. The Beaver River flows into the east end of the lake. We sometimes beach the boats there and slide down the waterfalls, or venture upstream to explore the river and the surrounding remote forest. The lake has some great beaches and coves to explore. Most of the shoreline is undeveloped. We love the peace and quiet, even on holiday weekends, There are no public boat launches on the lake so access is restricted to those who own property, or those who canoe or kayak the Beaver River Canoe Route. Aside from our own private beach, there are three other really nice sandy beaches, one on the east end accessible only by water, one on the west end, and our favorite is on the North Shore which is also only accessible by water.

The Property: Our Lodge was newly constructed in 2006. All furniture and fixtures were purchased new, and expressly to provide a comfortable and relaxing environment. Our property is over 7 acres in size, and bordered by water on two sides. Our beach and dock area is great for swimming, fishing, boating, digging in the sand, or just relaxing. We also have marked hiking trails along the water's edge, and also a trail to the highest point of a ridge on the property that offers a long range view across the lake and forests beyond, We have a great outdoor fire-pit overlooking the lake and plenty of firewood on hand. Most of the property is wooded, but there are two nicely maintained lawns, one behind the lodge, and one overlooking the beach. Play ball, or just relax in a lawn chair. Our huge front porch has mahogany flooring and overlooks the lake. It's a great shady and cool spot to relax on a hot summer's day. Included are two fishing boats with new outboard motors (we supply the gas), a 17 foot canoe, a 14 foot kayak and two ten foot kayaks.

Nature retreat
We love staying at Big Bear Lodge! The house is spacious and comfortable with a great view of the lake from the wide, inviting porch. We enjoy swimming, kayaking, canoeing, fishing, and simply enjoying nature. To end the day nothing is better than sitting around a campfire down by the lake

peaceful getaway
This is a great place to get away from it all - back to nature! We really enjoyed our stay! It was a bit of a walk to the water and dock, but not bad - Clear and wide enough to drive a pickup(we walked). Nice to have the canoe, boats, and kayaks. Swimming was also great! Lots of room to spread out in inside. Very private!! Gary met us there, gave us a tour, and all the info we needed for our stay. Would recommend a stay here, but helpful to have SUV or pickup!

Beautiful Property
We really enjoyed our stay here. The property is very large and there is quite a bit of privacy as it is quite far from any main road. The scenery was beautiful. It was great having two motorized fishing boats. The fishing was very so-so. We caught mostly pickerel and some smaller sized smallmouth bass but it was a bit slow and we would often go many hours in between bites. Gary was fantastic. He showed us around the property and was very easy to communicate with throughout the trip. The Wifi was very slow but I’m sure for most that is not a priority when on vacation in the mountains.

Great location and property
This is a gem of a place. The lake itself is formed from two dams on the river, so it's quite large and has interesting areas to navigate to. Fun walks for kids along the areas near the dam. The fishing is so-so, but the house is very well set up with all the right gear so we had a really enjoyable time. The owner was having quite a few beers when we checked in and drinking and driving which was a bit of a concern, but other than that was very responsive and easy to work with. The Amish country store near the town of Croghan is perfect for produce in the summer. The Maple museum in Croghan is interesting and the ice-cream shoppe is delightful. Recommend for families with small children.

Perfect Adirondack Lodge Experience
If you are looking for an authentic Adirondack lodge experience then Big Bear Lodge is the perfect choice. The lodge is very private and has a beautiful view of the lake. We used the boats everyday for great fishing and wonderful sightseeing. We also enjoyed a quiet paddle in the canoe. Gary provides everything you need for a wonderful stay. Our trip was like a throw back in time but with all of the modern conveniences. We look forward to another stay very soon.

Great time at a beautiful cabin on the lake
We were looking for a place to enjoy fall foliage and relax. This place was perfect. Gary had all the boats ready to go and gave us instructions so we could go explore the lake. The direct TV allowed us to watch the Bill's game. The kitchen was well equipped and we make delicious stew in in crockpot. The bed was comfy and linens provided. All in all a wonderful trip and exactly what we hoped for!

What a property!!!!! Amazing!!
We loved the house, property, lake and all of amenities that went with it. The house was extremely clean, just as advertised. When we arrived at the home we were greated by Gary who gave us a tour and provided instructions on the boats and motors. The kids fell in love with Morty!!! If you want to know who Morty is, I guess you will have to book a stay.😀 The town of Croghan was very nice. The meat market was delicious....I recommend the jalapeño cheese bologna. Good Ol' Wishey's was a highlight for the kiddos. They loved the ice cream. The one thing that I would recommend would be to list more information regarding the drive in. The house is very remote, back in the woods off of several dirt roads. The day that we arrived it was raining and we had to be very careful with the family minivan...lol. we made it no issues, but I would not recommend taking a small car back there. Lol Gary, thank you again for an absolutely wonderful week and beautiful home. We hope to stay again in the future. Val, Matt and family

Private Quiet Retreat
Beautiful quiet and very private location on the western edge of the Adirondacks. Accessed by a dirt road with a couple of other homes. The owner Gary met us on site for checkin, which was smooth. Property was as advertised, situated right on the lakefront, access to kayaks and small boats. Two fire pits with plenty of wood. Kitchen had all the basics for cooking. Great room was comfortable with large TV. We did not use the game room in the basement but it looked like fun. It was cold when we were there and the home was well heated with forced air. There is also a gas fireplace. Bedrooms downstairs have a double and a king. Loft upstairs has two twins beds and two doubles. Everything was comfortable in the bedrooms. Bathrooms clean and updated. Minor ceiling leak in the loft area. There is no cell service or WiFi. Main complaint in the house was the kitchen was not very clean. Refrigerator was dirty, counters and some dishes needed to be cleaned prior to use. Kitchen chairs still had food crumbs on them. The property is within easy driving distance to many outdoor activities. We enjoyed hikes at Independence River Wild Forest (Gleasmans Falls) as well as Whetstone Gulf State Forest. If we had visited during the summer I can only imagine the fun to be had with the lake, the boats, the rope swing over the water. This property is quite special in its location. Our group had two elderly parents, two adults and one active college student. We all enjoyed ourselves. Gary is responsive to emails and is quite helpful. Would recommend this property to anyone due to location, activities on site as well as local attractions, and the quality of the home. Just wipe down the kitchen, relax and have fun!

Wonderful Property to Unplug
Chose this property for the privacy, amenities and the fact that you’re not connected. Gary was great to work with and made sure we had all we needed for a great vacation. We spent the majority of our time fishing from the boats and the dock. Two outboard boats, multiple kayaks and a canoe give you plenty of choices to enjoy the water. Temperatures didn’t give us the opportunity to swim, but the private beach and lake would be wonderful in warmer months. Watching fighter plane maneuvers over the lake in the afternoons was a nice treat on clear days. The house was comfortable with everything you needed to prepare meals, relax and enjoy each other’s company. Multiple fire pits, games, hiking trails and wildlife right on location. Great place to disconnect and relax with fantastic views.

Absolutely in love with big bear lodge
This was our 2nd time renting this cabin and we are already talking about planning our 3rd trip. The peacefulness of this area is very hard to find. Most of the time it feels like you are the only people on the lake. Love the rope swing, vertical beach, and sliding down the rocks. The best place we have found to just get away from it all for a week.
