Hoi An’s local beach makes a refreshing change from the city, and the nearby Cham Islands are a great place for a day trip.

Cua Dai Beach offers respite from the heat and crowds of central Hoi An. It is located roughly 4 kilometres (2.5 miles) northeast of the city. The beach is a sizeable stretch of well-kept sand. Though it has its fair share of tourist resorts, Cua Dai is usually fairly peaceful and especially quiet during the week.

Designated sunbathing areas are reserved for resort customers but there is plenty of space so you won’t have trouble finding your own spot. If you’re seeking extra comfort, deck chairs and loungers are available to rent. The edge of the beach is fringed with palms, which offer plenty of shade from the midday sun.

The water at Cua Dai is clean and relatively cool. It’s great for swimming between April and October. Outside of these months it can become choppy and somewhat hazardous. When swimming, always look out for the red flags which indicate dangerous undertow.

Buy picnic items in Hoi An before you go or enjoy the food options at the beach. Kiosks on the way to the beach sell takeaway seafood and drinks, and the beach itself is lined with sit-down restaurants selling various fish dishes.

About 15 kilometres (9.3 miles) off Cua Dai is the Cham Islands. This is a small group of islands inhabited by about 3,000 residents. The Cham Islands is a Marine Protected Area, which makes for beautiful snorkelling and diving among the coral. Get to the Cham Islands by taking the boat from Cua Dai. A junk will get you there in 75 minutes a speedboat takes about half an hour. One of each leaves Cua Dai harbour daily.

A taxi to Cua Dai from Hoi An takes about 10 minutes. Alternatively, it’s an easy bike ride from downtown, along the Cua Dai road.

The staff were the best part of the hotel from Tyson at breakfast with tips & hints, Chris overall with help in many areas & finally Nam who was very considerate the day of arrival after a bad day travelling to the hotel. Noise was bit of an issue but Chris was understanding & considerate resolving the problem.

The hotel looks great in the online photos but close up its very tired. We had a really big room but again a bit tired inside, the carpet wasn’t vacuumed from the day we went in until we left, the internet in our room was very slow and the carpets in most of the hallways we went down were very heavily stained and dirty. The breakfast was very average (we had stayed in 4 other hotels in various parts of Vietnam and all the breakfasts we had were very good). The upstairs rooftop bar was set up like a private night club so not really accessible for hotel guests, we were only guided to 6 bar stools and the prices were very high. We paid a lot of money for a 3 night stay and it certainly wasn’t worth the money we paid and I think the 5 star rating of the hotel is very generous it’s hovering between 3 and 4 stars

We have stayed at the hotel previously in its Accor Mgallery guise and it has not diminished from that standard. Our room overlooked the canal through Hoi An, with a balcony, spotlessly clean, very roomy in size with great bed and bathiroom facilities. Breakfast area is enormous with a myriad of options. Staff are courteous and friendly, check in and out was seamless. The rooftop bar and pool offers views over Hoi An. Outside of happy hour it is not the cheapest place to have a drink. The hotel is very close to the Hoi An old town, associated eateries on the far bank and very walkable. There are pop up eateries along the canal at night offering cheap grills, seafood and noodles. A top hotel in a top location. Not the cheapest option in town but you get what you pay for. We were two couples in their 60's and 70's and stayed for three nights. Well recommended.

The beach is slowly restoring itself after being washed away. We borrowed pushbikes and rode here. Look for the little local eating places right on the beach but hidden away.
