Interesting host and home
Allan has built an incredible Mayan home on the edge of the jungle yet close to Valladolid. The place is not for those seeking a hotel-like experience but we enjoyed the place for its uniqueness, the many animals, and for his amazing stories and breakfast. He provided great local recommendations as well.

What a find!
After reading the description and making the reservation we were not confident we had made a wise decision to stay here. But when we arrived we immediately felt welcomed by Allan at his extraordinary stone house, which is a work of art. The second-floor bedroom opens out onto a large patio filled with plants, looking out into the jungle. The honey he harvests is the best I've ever tasted. Allan's openness and generosity made us feel right at home and provided for. There is much to see and do within a half hour of here. We enjoyed our walk into the jungle directly from his house.

Unique stay in the jungle!
If you are looking for a unique place to stay that isn't your average VRBO, then this is it. Over 3 miles down a one lane paved road to a small isolated village within the Yucatan jungle. Allan is getting up there a bit in age and this place takes a lot of maintenance so come see it while you still can. A few things to consider before going: You probably should be able to navigate narrow stairs. You are in the jungle and there will be some bugs around (not any in the bedroom that we saw) but we were visited by some small nonstinging bees for our morning breakfast that we decided to have outside. You have to walk outside to get to the upstairs bathroom and it might have a bug or two you have to shoo away. Water gets heated via wood most of the time so may take abit to heat up (make sure he has the valves the right way if cold!) He has some quite sweet and loyal pups and cats. Allan is a bachelor and it does show time to time. Buy some honey from his own bees! Great host and had some great conversations!

Highlight of Mexico
We arrived late from Tulum and Alan made us immediately welcome. He shared great stories and has a lot of knowledge about the area. It is definitely a different kind of stay that the resorts in Tulum and Cancun, but that is exactly why we chosen this place. He provided amazing French toast made from eggs of his chickens and honey from his hive. It was overall a great experience.

Hospitality in the jungle
The house is amazing! Allan guided us all the way in, gave recommendations about places to visit in the surrounding area, and even served us a homemade breakfast. This off-the-beaten-path jungle castle is a great option for anyone looking for a touch of adventure

Wonderful experience
My daughter and I arrived late at night, Allen was there to meet us, show us around and give us some local cultural history. Woke up in the morning to Allen preparing a fresh breakfast, mostly grown on the property. Than as the sun rose I was able to get a better look at the amazing structure he has created. The views from the top level are spectacular. This property is a short drive to the pyramid so we were able to get in and get out before the large crowds arrived. (Highly recommend this!) AND (Highly recommend this stay!)

Mayan jungle adventure.
Located in the Jungle in a small (200) Mayan village, This stay turned out to be a bit of challenge for me. I am 83 and must admit that adventure travel may be no longer in future travel plans. My son who is 40 who was an outdoor adventure trainer had a great time and plans to go back next year. Alan, the owner, who stayed in the house with us was a fine source of information on the flora and fauna as well as all available in the city of Valladolid. He was able to arrange a cooking lesson for me by a local Mayan lady who taught me how to make Cochinita Pibil. If you are into roughing it a bit, experiencing Mayan culture firsthand and learning what it is like to be in the jungle, this is a great place for you.

Eclectic Retreat in the Mayan Jungle
From the village Cucunan, you drive on a single lane paved road 3k into the jungle. Allan's house is like a mystical free form 5 story house In a small village of Mayan farmers. Our bedroom was lovely, Allan has done all kinds of intricate tile work on the floor. Outside the bedroom is a private bath that is tiled with designs of animals from the sea, which is one of Allan's many passions. Allan is a very kind, well educated man who loves to share his knowledge of the Mayan culture, where he lives unobtrusively. If you are looking for a unique experience, you should really consider this place. We would go back in a heartbeat.

Mexico hautnah
