Nestling below the Lomond Hills, and surrounded by beautiful countryside, Falkland is a wonderful place for walking. You can hike to the top of West Lomond to see the Bunnet Stane rock formation and John Knox’s Pulpit, see Falkland Estate, the hunting ground for Scotland’s royalty, or walk around the village. Fans of ‘Outlander’ will recognize Falkland as the village centre from the TV series, which played the part of Inverness. The village has a lovely choice of traditional pubs, cosy tearooms, and quirky shops. Spectacular Falkland Palace, beloved by Mary, Queen of Scots, has all the glory and splendour expected of a royal residence. Take time to wander round the extensive gardens and orchards and look out for the living willow labyrinth, the giant chess board and the world’s oldest tennis court. If you thought your stay couldn’t get any better, Falkland Estate is just a few minutes away where you can explore the many paths and tracks that run throughout 1900 hectares of land with routes through forest, past active farm land, over burns and to the summit of East Lomond.
There are open, steep, spiral or narrow stairs at the property.
