Walnut House - Architectural Design backing onto Botanic Gardens

An empty site in Daylesford and a sole walnut tree provided the inspiration for Adam Kane Architects and the design of Walnut House. Retained as an integral part of the concept, the walnut tree frames the entrance to a double gable barn-like form, with concrete steps leading to a glass entry link.

Ascending into the house from beneath its canopy, the walnut tree is further referenced through the interior finishes, with white polished plaster and burnished concrete accentuated by hardwood walnut joinery. The main living space is a dramatic, open-plan environment with floor-to-ceiling sliding glass doors that peel back and allow you to take in the vitality of the country air.

A generous stone island bench acts as the centrepiece of the kitchen, together with a walnut dining table designed by the architect, and a well-equipped kitchen, make for a perfect dining experience for yourselves and up to four guests.

A stay at Walnut House allows you to experience the magic of the Scandinavian-designed Gubi ‘wonder sofa’. Grab a book, unplug your technology, and sink into deep relaxation in front of the fireplace or 85 inch television.

Two generous en-suite bedrooms are positioned with privacy in mind. There is a vastness in the spaces that link the beautifully designed rooms, yet there is a feeling of being held in these rooms that allow for deep rest and rejuvenation.

The Walnut House was shortlisted for four architectural prizes and is one of the only houses available for rent in Daylesford with underfloor heating throughout.

Please note access to the driveway is too steep for low-slung sports cars, although all standard cars will be fine. More Range Rover than Lamborghini.
