"Enjoyed. Outside just reflected renovations i. Backcorner of property but slow season it made sense plus bad weather so probably couldnt remove old mattresses. Good breakfast and very friendlt staff."

"Only bummer was 4 oclock check in time. With 3 oclock basketball game, so many folks were checking in at 5.30. 2 lines 15 people deep. Room was beautiful, location great!!"

"This is the perfect place for a quiet fall getaway for a couple or small family. There is absolutely NOTHING around (exactly what we wanted), so be prepared to BRING ALL FOOD with you!! There are no local stores within 20 minutes. The house itself is quaint and eclectic. The hot tub was great and we used the fire pit on our crisp evenings.(plenty of firewood provided) The river was barely seen through the trees, but we took a stroll of the property and found the water down below. Kitchen amenities are basic with a drip coffee maker and the biggest kitchen sink you’ve ever seen! The downstairs bed was comfortable but watch out for the wood-burning stove in an awkward location between the bedroom door and the bathroom! (esp at night!) We appreciated the host providing linens but the towel selection might need to be updated a bit. Most of them were older and pretty small. We couldnt get the tv to work but it didnt make a difference to us—just mentioning here in case it is important to you. The host lives next door and is readily available if you need anything (but they gave us total privacy). We had no issues with cell reception. We used our phones but didnt connect to wifi. It would be helpful to have a guest book with a few instructions or a map of the property, emergency instructions, local supplies, etc. I’m sure if we asked, they would have told us, but we would prefer to have the information at a glance like many other rental properties do. We would come back!"

"The peaceful setting high above the James was only interrupted by the infrequent passing freight trains across the river. The sunsets were colorful and the clear moonless nights burst with stars, especially looking up from the hot tub. The cabin was as advertised; comfortable bedrooms, modern bathrooms, well-stocked kitchen (pots, plates pans, utensils, etc). Central Air/Heat worked fine. The host, Brian, provides clear timely instructions on Dos and Don'ts, both before you arrive and at the cabin itself. We visited a couple of nearby wineries (Elk Island and Byrd Cellars) and a brewery (James River), plenty of shops and took advantage of the Food Lion in Scottsville for groceries. My only criticism, which kept me from all 5 stars, was the trail to the river could use a little TLC at the bottom of the steps. A half hour with a mini chain saw would do the trick in clearing the deadfall from the path. Don't let the critique keep you away, as this is a lovely property and locale that needs to be enjoyed. "
