We were all delighted with this amazing home. The house is great and very well equipped. The views are incredible and it is so convenient to have such a great restaurant next door (Blue Island). This is a great place to bring your family and spend some quiet time. The beach is incredible. We saw more traffic during the weekend as locas will come to the beaches near to the house ,but it all gets even better during the weekdays as you have the entire length of the beach for yourselves. We are already planning next year's vacation to the same place !

Wonderful place for a family beach vacation
Great house, wonderful excursion to Cayo Arena that leaves from literally right off the beachfront, mesmerizing swim through the waterfalls, and very friendly and helpful staff. Just know that the town is minimal, food options after 6pm have to be planned, and the ride to get there takes a while.

Paradise!
Our stay at Punta Rucia exceeded all expectations. The home was very clean and the beach and ocean pristine. Natalie and Carl Phillipe were gracious hosts and the excursions they arranged were such a treat. The restaurant staff was very professional and the meals were delicious. Not enough can be said of Kleibe, Rafelina and Alphonse who made us feel welcome and safe. We would like plan a return trip!

Beautiful but much more rural than anticipated.
Getting to the house is a VERY long, winding ride from either airport (2-1/2 hours). Getting around the area is at best arduous. Very rocky dirt roads to anywhere. The house is lovely, although a bit too sparse in furnishings to make it comfortable. Balcony overlooking the beach is beautiful. We spent most of our time there since sitting on the beach is hazardous with the very strong trade winds that start around 11 am most days through about 5 pm. You leave the beach feeling totally sand blasted. Mosquitoes are not as bad as in many islands but the sand flies surely make up for it. The staff was lovely and always very helpful. Unfortunately, the house is sandwiched between two restaurants. One of which is up and about prepping for the day in quite a loud manner. Lots of yelling back and forth, loud music and most times. The other, runs Cataran excursions several times a week from the beach right in front of the house. Tourist and locals alike come arrive by the bus load from everywhere. We took the tour and found it to be lovely and well with the cost. Overall, it was an okay experience. We gave up trying to leave the property after the first few days because of the difficulty of getting around. Almost totally disconnected from the world (WiFi is sketchy at best). Which left lots of time for read, sleeping, and just resting up. I guess that’s what vacations are for.

Amazing vacation at Villa Mango!
Our family of 6 (grandma, husband and I, and three kids, 9, 5, 1) traveled to this remote yet charming village of Punta Rucia. The village itself is quite small and basic/rustic, and doesn't offer too many tourist like attractions (i.e. Restaurants). However, our host (Natalie & Carl-Philippe) were amazing and took care of all of our needs. They also manage an adjacent restaurant to the property, where our kids had a dozen or more Pina Coladas. And if you are not into cooking this would be a place to enjoy some French cuisine by chef Juan Carlos. You can feel the family-like atmosphere between Natalie and Carl-Philippe, their staff, and guests. It feels like they treat you as part of their family. And this is something you will never feel in an all inclusive resort or hotel type stay. The property is fantastic, and exactly as advertised. Our kids enjoyed white sandy beach and teal color waters, trampoline, swing and many beach toys that came with the house. Occasionally Alfanso, the ground keeper, would appear with a few open coconuts for our pleasure. He did a great job taking care of the property grounds and making sure we were safe. But the people that really made this trip unique and unforgettable were Kleiby, Rafalina, and their daughters. Kleiby is your right-hand man, he takes care of your needs (i.e Excursions, trips to grocery stores, snorkeling, driver, etc.). Rafalina takes care of the house (i.e cleaning & washing). She is a great cook! Our kids loved playing with their daughters. But beyond their duties, Kleiby and Rafalina, are caring, warm, open and extremely friendly people despite cultural and language barriers. We were always on the same wave with them! We spent 10 beautiful sunny days in early April: swimming, snorkeling, visiting 27 waterfalls, mangrove, deep sea, and spear fishing, 2 visits to the paradise island, and swimming with dolphins at Ocean World. Punta Rucia is all about people, hospitality, atmosphere and great times! We are definitely coming back!!!

March 2019
We absolutely loved our stay! We were seeking a vacation where we could enjoy a beautiful beach and sunshine with our children, without being in a touristy area or resort. This was exactly what we got! We had an amazing beach to ourselves and a restaurant on either side of the home, both serving yummy food and drinks! The caretakers of the property are some of the sweetest people ever and will always hold a special place in our hearts. Rafaelina and Albert thank you for being so kind! Make sure you stock up on groceries before heading to the home as it is indeed away from it all! If you want constant entertainment, this is likely not the vacation for you. This is a relax and recharge vacation. About the only excursion you can do without significant drive time is snorkeling at paradise island! Definitely do this and go early to beat the crowd and party scene if you have kiddos. We did a small private trip to snorkel there and did the mangroves on our way home and it was fantastic! Papito was our guide and he was awesome! We recommend you definitely have someone pick you up and drive you to the home from the airport. Take advantage of this service. My husband travels internationally and has driven in many different countries but he even was glad he did not drive here; mainly because there is minimal signage to get around. Make sure you walk to Lino Pizza! Best pizza ever and keep in mind Blue Island serves only until 5/6 pm. We tried to make lunch our big meal out for this reason and cooked our dinner and breakfasts at the rental. Also know, this is an open to the outdoors kitchen, which we really enjoyed! Please, please...make sure to pack enough money for tipping your driver, care taker, and even the security and outdoor maintenance man Alfonso. They are kind and work hard! Absolutely wonderful vacation! Also know if you want to snorkel close to the house you can see many tropical fish right along the shoreline from blue island restaurant heading down the concrete wall and much further. Enjoy!

Villa Mango, Punta Rucia
Villa Mango is lovely. The setting right on the beach is spectacular, and the house is charming. We arrived in October and stayed for three wonderful weeks. Our family, which includes two young children, enjoyed swimming at least twice a day due to the calm waters and sandy swimming area directly in front of Villa Mango. It could not have been a better swimming area for young children. Villa Mango also has a wonderful, helpful staff. We felt very safe and at ease night and day. We walked into town to purchase fresh fish, chicken, and limited fruit and vegetables, though it is very limited and one should follow the advice of the owners, and shop in the city for most of your supplies before you arrive at Villa Mango. We hope to be able to come back! The owners, Carl-Philippe and Natalie are very receptive and accommodating to all your needs. It is truly a lovely place to stay.

Exceeded all expectations
This house was amazing!!! Perfect location on the beach. Lovely small village with the nicest and friendliest people. This not a resort area so it is not as busy. The location is perfect. The house has 4 rooms and 2 bathrooms. The rooms get an ocean breeze, we never used the air condition. The owners of the property Natalie and Carl Philip are just amazing. The answered all of our questions, and helped us have an unforgettable experience. Our driver/tour guide and his wife who cleans the house and also cooks meals for an additional fee, were some of the nicest and lovely people we have ever met. Rafaelina cooked better than any of the restaurants that we ate at and Kleiby took us to the waterfalls and to paradise island. We instantly bonded with them, my daughter who is 9 years old played with the daughters of the caretakers. We did not know what to expect when we went to the DR to stay at this house, all our expectations were blown away. We had an amazing experience. We were all sad and depressed on the last day, we had such and amazing time. We are already planning our next trip there. Amazing house, spectacular location, but the best thing was all of the phenomenal people we met. We will be going again!! Thank you Natalie and Carl Philip!!

The house was literally on the beach with shade from the Sea Grape trees.
The home was lovely. The sandy grounds and view of the ocean could not have been better. We did not use the AC as the ocean breeze and overhead fans were enough to keep nights comfortable. The drive from Puerto Plata is pretty grueling (over 2 hours) but we were looking to get away. The town of Punta Rucia is nothing more than a collection of shacks with galvanized metal roofs, a few fairly rustic but charming hotels and restaurants. Maybe not for everyone but we loved it. The locals are very friendly. We experienced no soliciting. As others have said use bug spray as those little black flies will chew up your ankles but frankly not nearly as bad as Michigan mosquitos or Canadian black flies. Kleiby our driver, caretaker, tour guide and guardian angel was great. His wife Rafalina (housekeeper, gourmet chef and my wife's personal Spanish teacher and best friend for the week) was a joy. Next door is a bar/ restaurant that has moderate activity during the day but closes in the late afternoon so no night time noise issues. Decent snorkeling right off the beach if you swam out several hundred yards.

Amazing off the beaten path location, amazing people.
I'm afraid to review this place, as I want it all to ourselves! We will definitely go back if we get the chance. This place is for people who want to get away from the crowded resort scene and experience a different culture. It was an adventure but also incredibly relaxing. This is a wonderful, nicely furnished house literally right on the beach in a super quiet village called Punta Rucia. Stunning views every morning while drinking coffee. Decent internet access so we could check in on our online businesses too.The house managers Kleiby and Rafalina were amazing and so fun to interact with. They met all of our needs with a ride to and from the airport in Santiago (2.5 hour drive with a stop at grocery store), a day touring Porta Plata and a day snorkeling out at Paradise island (amazing!). They even managed to pick up a cake for my wife's 40th birthday. We also had Rafalina cook for us a handful of nights...which was awesome. My kids said they want her to come home with us! Keep in mind that there are only a handful of restaurants, a bar next door, a small market and not much else in this location...except for a beautiful beach. You will see and experience a more typical DR experience that is outside the sterilized resort scene. Everything was very comfortable and we felt safe the whole time. We were sad to leave. A couple other notes: The one thing that we didn't enjoy was the bugs! We got lots of annoying bug bites. Bring bug spray with deet. We did have a couple of power outages, but not a big deal for us. Owners, Carl-Philippe and Natalie were wonderful and responsive to all the questions we asked.

Wonderful house
We always look for unique vacation experiences, and Beachfront, with outdoor living such as this property are by far our favorite. In addition to being a beautiful area, we felt very safe and well cared for. Everyone was very friendly wherever we went. Our group cooked some nights, others we went out or had Rafaelina cook for us. Do make sure you load up on groceries before arriving as recommended. Bug juice is a must! A trip to the 27 Waterfalls is well worth it if you are somewhat adventurous.

The villa is exactly as pictured. Very beautiful
Santa Ruicia is beautiful town but very remote. We were torn about renting a car and so didn’t, frankly once you are there, other than going to the grocery store there is no where else to go so you don’t need a car. There are no bars in the town and only one restaurant which for us it was a bit too quiet! We did hire someone to cook for us which made up for it. All in all it was a beautiful trip and much preferred over the all-inclusive resort experience. The diving was also very nice.

A little bit of paradise.
This was truly a wonderful trip. The property was fantastic but our staff is what made it so great. Alberto and Rafalina (SP) were so graicious and helpful. WE arrived as strangers but left as family. I have never rented a home where the folks went out of their way to make you feel so at home. We had a small problem which was in no way the fault of the property but the owners made concessions beyond our expectations. They truly were the professionals that you hope to rent from. The property was on a beach that was almost private and right in our back yard. On a cautionary note you have to go to this property with either a plan to eat out every night or a detailed menu as the main grocery store is in Santiago which is 2.5-3 hours away. Food had to be well planned as we stayed for 12 days. If you are into fast paced action this is not for you. If you are looking to immerse yourself in a culture and have a great property to do it in this is the place. The local people were very friendly and we walked down town at night I felt very safe. I hate to brag on this place too much as we may want to go back in the future. Do not want to ruin a well kept secret. Thank you again Carl-Philippe and Natalie & Alberto and Rafalina.

This place is amazing....
We loved Villa Mango! We were a group of 4 that stayed there for 9 nites in January 2018. The house is everything we look for in a vacation spot: ocean front, clean, beautiful setting, non-touristy. What really makes this place special is the people. All interaction with the owners was seamless and very informative. We took their advice and had Klabey pick us up and drop us off at the airport....although we usually rent a car we were glad we took them up on this...we would have never found the place in the dark! Klabey took great care of us with a trip to Paradise Island, Playa Ensenada, fishing and to 27 waterfalls (all highly recommended). He did everything imaginable to make us feel welcome in his town. Rafalina kept the place spotless everyday and cooked amazing meals at the house. Alfonso was wonderful to have onsite and kept the grounds around the house and the beach impeccably clean. If you are looking for a place with tons of restaurants and gift shops this isn't for you. If you are looking for a low-key beautiful location where you can melt into the culture and feel like a local then Punta Rucia/Villa Mango is your dream destination. Rob

A wonderful house in the best possible location
I spent two weeks at villa mango with my brother, mother and two children (4and 8) and just loved it. First the location, it is in a fairly remote location but this was ideal for us. The beach by the house was pristine and the sea the most gorgeous color, clear and blue. We walked the whole length of the beach several times and for us the beach in front of the house was by far the best. Next door is the paridiso eco lodge and they have a outside bar and restaurant that was pretty good. They also have a few inflatables at sea and my 8 year old really enjoyed them. Towards the middle of the beach there is a local bar and a little plaza. Locals hang out here and there is music (batchata), playing all day and evening. It's faint and I enjoyed it. The beach in front of the bar and town area is not the nicest part , which is why villa mango is so ideal. The house- we just loved it. It had everything you can need to make a stay very comfortable and the house keeper rafaelina takes great care of it. It is cleaned everyday! It is super clean and comfortable. They even have really nice beach loungers. There are 3 people helping take care of the house, rafaelina, kleiby and Alfonse. All are fabulous. Rafaelina and kleiby have 3 girls and my children loved playing with them almost every day. The house also has a big trampoline and the kids spent hours in it. We brought a lot of beach toys. The house has some buckets and beach stuff but I would recommend bringing a boogie board, snorkel stuff and flippers, inflatables. Trips- we went to paradise island (cayo arena) and it was my favorite trip. Go early and snorkel. Kleiby organized this for us . We also went to ocean world. I thought this was insanely expensive and not my kind of thing at all but my daughter swam with the dolphins and had a blast. We went with kleiby to puerto plata and went up the mountain for spectacular views, and the amber museum. eating in punta rucia- we mainly ate at home. A few times Rafaelina cooked. We also ate at the lodge next door. There is a place called linos which makes good pizza. There are some local food places in town and the fancy punta rucia lodge. The food there isn't that exciting though. There are people that. One by with fresh fish and crab for sale and a fruit and vegetable truck hat comes by in front of the house. We got all our fresh fruit from there . Overall this was a fabulous holiday, friendly place and wonderful people. Can't wait to go back

House is beautifully done. Luxury and simplicity there. Designed to catch perfect cross breeze . Best views. Surrounded by friendly local people. Utter peace. House was pristine , with everything we needed. One unexpected but priceless experience was the friendship formed with the caretakers of the home . You cannot imagine more genuine, friendly souls. The conversations and fun we had with the people was the best part of the trip. Beautiful country, beautiful house, wonderful people. Thank you. We will be back. Special thank you to Kleiby, Rafelina, and Alfonso. Carl-Philippe and Natalie also were wonderful and took the time to meet us after we arrived and answered any question immediately . Amazing !

Best place for a friends or family vacation
Villa Mango is the best place you can have a wonderful time with friends or family. The communication was excellent. The transport from Puerto Plato and back was good and well organized. The staff was so nice and made the week unforgettable. Rafelina and Maria cooked very delicious food for a very reasonable prize. Don't forget to stop at the supermarket when you drive to Punta Russia (the stop is included in the transportation costs). But you just need some good cuts of meat and fancy stuff. Most of the ingredients of the food service will be bought by Rafelina and Maria. The house is amazing and located directly at the beach, which is just amazing. Don't forget to have an anti mosquito spray. Thanks! We will come back for sure!
