About this space
Experience the simplicity of nature on the River Shannon along the banks of Lough Bofin. Stay in the comfort of a newly renovated contemporary stone cottage on the grounds of Aughry House, where 17th century Aughry Castle once stood. Surrounded by walled gardens in a sheltered stone yard you can enjoy the grounds by day and cosy up by the oil burning stove come evening time. Only a 3min stroll to the village and harbour and within a 10-15 min drive to Carrick-on-Shannon and Lough Rynn Castle.
The space
The cottage has two floors. The ground floor consists of an open plan living, dining and kitchen area which is cosy, modern and really relaxing. Nothing better than swinging the half doors open on a sunny day and sitting back to watch and listen to the fountain flow in the walled garden, all from the comfort of a comfy couch. Take in the every changing views through the old cottage windows that look out over the yard and green fields. Cosy up and chat beside the oil burning stove.
Upstairs consists of two bedrooms - one medium sized room with a super king bed with two views. One into the yard and walled garden entrance and the other over the fields. The second bedroom is a small room with a standard double bed which over looks the green fields though the large picture window. In addition, there is a modern bathroom.
Guest access
Guests have full access to the cottage, yard area, walled gardens, rockeries, walled orchards, front & back avenues. There is a secure private access for guests via the back entrance which will bring you straight up into the yard. The eircode often brings you via the main house entrance which is no problem. Drive through the main gates and up the avenue. Once you approach the main house drive towards the right, you will see two large garage doors, drive down the lane to the right of these. It's a little narrow at first but will bring you straight down to the yard to the front of the cottage. Please feel free to use either entrances during your stay with us.
Other things to note
If you love water then this is the place to bring your boats, kayaks, canoes, paddle boards, swim suits as we are surrounded by the beautiful waters of Lough Bofin. Easy access from Dromod Harbour slip way.
We have a no shoe policy. We ask that all guests remove their shoes once inside the cottage. This is for two reasons, the yard can get mucky so it saves a messy floor and also for people to just kick back and relax. We have a shoe rack on the right hand side as you enter the cottage under the wall hanging. Bring your slippers and cosy socks!
It is important to note that this is a working yard that we use when we are here and the farmers also use. The yard, gardens, orchards and rockeries are a shared space. The farm is leased to a local farmer therefore there may be tractors and animals on rare occasions around the farm yard. Noise levels will be kept as low as possible. Aughry is still a work in progress so be careful on the grounds. We want to share what we love the most here at Aughry with our guests and we look forward to welcoming you.
