'Cayman Cottage by the Sea' - Economical Family Accommodations

Cayman Cottage by the Sea is a two storey, two bedroom Caribbean Cottage that is absolutely perfect for the budget-minded traveler.

Located on the south (Beach) side of the road in peaceful Colliers, on the East End of Grand Cayman, it is literally steps away from a pristine, white powdery sand beach. Nestled amongst lush, tropical plants, palm and coconut trees, there is a large terrace off the 2nd floor for reading or sun-tanning with a fabulous view of the OCEAN !

The cottage has recently undergone a renovation, with pictures coming soon.
We have removed the winding staircase to allow more space in the living room and kitchen. The staircase is now on the extension behind the kitchen. On the 2nd floor, we have put in a new 3-piece bathroom. Our kitchen was recently renovated and includes a dishwasher, ceramic cooktop, microwave / convection oven, Full-sized fridge, glass mosaic backsplash and granite countertops.

There are two bathrooms; one on each floor. The downstairs bathroom has the master bedroom and 3-piece ensuite. The upstairs bedroom is huge, and has, in addition to the new bathroom with shower, a queen sized bed, 3 single beds and a seating area.

The cottage is just 10 minutes from the new Shetty Hospital for Cardiac Care -- which is located in High Rock. This is the perfect, low cost option if you have family who are in the hospital and you want to stay close by.

The 'Cayman Cottage by the Sea' is fully equipped with all linens, dishes and cooking utensils. There is an indoor dinette and outdoor patio set. Cottage could hold a maximum of 7 guests. You could have the following configurations:

5 Adults and up to 2 children
4 Adults and up to 3 children
3 Adults and up to 4 children
2 Adults and up to 5 children

We are sorry, but due to licensing restrictions, we cannot accommodate 6 or 7 adults in the cottage --- but we do have other options at the same location we can offer you with more space.

We have 2 tandem Kayaks, a single Kayak, and 2 paddle boards as well as life vests that are for our guests to use at no charge. We recently had a swimming pool installed and have a whirlpool which is also a hot tub at night (between 6-9 p.m. only).

Honeymoon Getaway

Great, private location

Such a beautiful location and home for our vacation! East side of the island with our own private beach. Lorraine has kayaks, even found us snorkeling equipment!! 5 of us and more than enough room to stretch out. We are definitely going back!! We felt like a park of Lorraine’s family.

We celebrated our wedding anniverasary at the cottage. It was absolutely beautiful! Everyone we encountered was pleasant and friendly. Lorraine greeted us when we got there. The cottage was beautiful and clean. We enjoyed having our own private beach. The island was beautiful! There was plenty to see and do. The local food was delicious. Our favorites were One Stop, Big Tree BBQ, Vivine's Kitchen and The Italian Kitchen. We would definitely return.

Peaceful Paradise
Totally enjoyed our stay. Location is in the East End of the island, which is away from the bustle of cruise ships/7-mile beach. Private beach with beautiful sunrises. Affordable and modern accommodations. Only hiccup was thought we would be the only ones on the property. There is actually 5 rental units. But, we met several couples and it only enhanced our stay. Lorraine, the property manager is a gem and she is there to make your stay great!. Will definitely go back.

A cute, clean place in an idyllic location
We had a truly wonderful time staying at the Cayman Cottage by the Sea. Sandra responded to all of our messages promptly, was extremely helpful, professional and pleasant to communicate with. The property manager Alden was amazingly prompt, capable and really helpful, too. The cottage is very homey, clean, well-stocked with plenty of towels and is in very close proximity to the beach. The location is fantastic if you want to avoid the typical resort crowds. One of our favorite things during our stay was watching the sunrise every morning from the main deck, which has a lovely view of the ocean, just steps away from our door. Sandra provided a great list of places to eat, things to do, and other helpful information about the area. We tried a couple of the restaurants she recommended, and the food and service was terrific. Based on our all-around great experience here, we highly recommend this property.

Relaxing
If you want a quiet place to relax that is close to the beach—this is it. The water was great. There is an ocean view from the upper deck. We had some internet issues initially, but Lorraine was helpful. The upstairs bath has a tub with hand sprayer but no stand up shower. There is a small grocery store and liquor store a few minutes away. We loved Taco Cantina—go on a Thursday for 2 for one tacos and margs, but call ahead for a reservation. We used the kayaks but did not use the hot tub. The kitchen had adequate housewares. This is the quiet side of the island/-about 40 min from Georgetown, so plan accordingly.

Great Place to Stay!
The location is perfect-- the East End really allowed us get away from cruise ship crowds and tourists. Yet, when we wanted to go to 7-mile beach, it's just a 45 minute drive. It does have several great snorkeling sites, too. We would recommend renting a car to stay at the cottage, then you are free to explore the entire island. The cottage was perfect for our family of 4. It is super clean and it has a nice lay-out. Nadine, the owner, is wonderful-- we truly enjoyed talking with her and she was very helpful. She ensured that we had everything we needed-- she even got a pizza pan for us, so we could cook pizza for our kids! She is a fun person, and her energy spread to make our visit fun. The beach out front is gorgeous-- with very few people in the area. The old dock makes a wonderful habitat to many species of colorful fish, so we snorkeled here daily! We highly recommend the Cottage by the Sea. (Hi, Nadine! Thank you!)

Paradise Found
What a wonderful cottage by the sea we had the pleasure of staying in for nine days. The communication ahead of our visit was outstanding, getting questions answered, information about things to see and do on the island and overall, very friendly and welcoming correspondence. The cottage was perfect for us and our granddaughter, who occupied the upstairs room. The kitchen provided us the ability to cook meals when we wanted to but were well informed as to local restaurants. The cottage has great AC, which we used at night, the Internet worked well, and the beds and furniture were comfortable. The property has lots of blooming flowers and coconut palms with lovely white sand. Snorkeling was fabulous right in front of the cottage and house. There were hundreds of fish just a stroll into the sea. It is an amazing place take in the sunrise each day while sipping coffee barefoot on the beach. Lorraine was spectacular! She is such a lovely person, and it was a delight to see her during the week. You cannot go wrong with booking this cottage!

A Great Vacation
My friend and I rented this cottage and absolutely loved it. We loved that it was on the east end of the island, away from the tourist area yet close to Rum Point, the most awesome beach ever. Gary and Nadine were very cool and we had many laughs with them. There was plenty do to nearby, went to Rum Point everyday which was about 15 minutes away. The cottage was great, so cute and comfortable. We were very happy we had chosen to stay here...it really made us happy...we had such an increduble time and will definitely come back...just a few notes, not negatives..the staircase upstairs is fairly narrow and probably not good for "large adults"...the beach right out front of the place is beautiful, but not good for swimming as it's rocky and weedy..but like I said Rum Point is 15 minute drive...Over the edge is a great place to eat (on the way ro Rum Point)..the island is very easy to get around and driving on the left was no problem....this is a beautiful island and this cottage was a fabulous place to stay....so loved it.....the weather at the beginning of April was spectacular...

Magical
My stay at this cottage was everything I had hoped for and more. I thought I had reservations at a 7 mile resort for a conference I was attending only to find out an hour before leaving for the airport that they had been erroneously canceled. One of the best things to happen to me! I emailed Sandra after seeing the cottage was available. She called me and helped work everything out, sent directions, things to do, places to eat all before I had to leave. I loved getting away from seven mile beach each day as I drove back to the cottage and watched the scenery morph from kfc/shops/and resorts to a different pace and natural beauty. I sat on the beach each evening to see the stars and snorkeled the dock each chance I could (saw ~20 species of fish). I loved how cozy the cottage was, the fully-stocked kitchen, the upstairs balcony, and getting to know Nadine. She helped with everything (I had a hard time locking the door) and is simply a really interesting, cool person. Amazing experience...already convincing my husband to return with me.

Eastside Gem
This two-storeyj cottage is on the peaceful and quiet East End of Grand Cayman. if you want hustle and bustle, night life, noise and a zillion people, don't stay here -- book yourself a room at one of the towering resorts lining Seven Mile Beach, and don't say I didn't warn you. If you want to relax, connect deeply with the island, the beautiful aquamarine, warm water, the tropical fish, stingrays (they won't hurt you) and the coral, and if you want to hang out on a lovely private beach, with tropical fish to see in the water RIGHT THERE, then this is the place for you. The cottage is not technically ocean-front, but it has a deck attached to the second floor, where you can easily see the ocean and where you can dine and relax. There is almost no traffic on the road nearby. If you want to dine out or go to a seaside bar, there are 2 choices, in small resorts about 1 mile up the road. Best of all, the property manager Lorraine is a wonderful, friendly, helpful, lovely person who can be reached easily and who will take care of any needs or problems, with a great attitude. You should get to know her while you're there--you won't regret it.

Cute cottage, beautiful location
I rented Cayman Cottage by the Sea for my adult children for a week, as we were staying in the neighboring Snuggle Beach unit. The cottage is very cute, and worked out perfectly for the three of them. It is in very good condition with recent renovations. The view in this picture is from the balcony off of the upstairs bedroom. The main house sits between the cottage and the beach, blocking the view to the left of the picture. However, it was a very nice place to sit and enjoy the view on a windy day as the main house also blocked the wind. There is easy access to the beautiful private beach. There are actually four units on this property, the cottage, the main upper part of the house, and two units on the bottom floor of the house. There was another family of 8 renting the upper part of the house and one of the bottom units while we were there. It never posed any problems and there are plenty of beach chairs and space for everyone. Sandra and Lorraine were very helpful with any questions or problems we had. The East End of the island is a less populated area, however, there are several restaurants fairly close to the property and a small grocery store within walking distance.

Wonderful stay!
We had an amazing stay at the cottage. Everything was very clean upon arrival and both the owner and property manager were easy to communicate with for all of our needs/questions. A few pros to note that I didn't see in other reviews... The hot tub on the property was kept cool during our stay in June and it was a HUGE plus for us. We have a 6 year old daughter and we spent quite a bit of time in the hot tub "pool" with her. It kept her busy, was relaxing for myself and my husband, and it kept us all cool! Another thing we loved about the property was the ocean past the dock. If you take a paddleboard or kayak out past the dock there is beautiful clear blue water only about 4-6 deep so you can get out and snorkel or float in the water. You can go all the way to the break and there is a rock "beach" that you can get out and walk around on. We loved being out there! The property is also located within short driving distance to many amazing restaurants and beaches even though it's on the East End. A few of our favorites were Barefoot Beach, the Blow Holes, TUKKA bar, The Czech Inn, Rum Point just for a chill time, and the bar on the water at Morrit's (you can walk to this if there's no sargassum). The only cons - we got unlucky with sargassum so walking along the beach was a no go (BUT if you take the boards out past it, it was no issue at all) and also my husband and I weren't super comfy on the living room furniture. Overall a fantastic stay. We would go back!!

Great place! Very happy with location and property
Quiet location on the east end with great snorkeling right off the property's beach. Saw more than 20 types of fish right in our back yard! Beach area is shared with the guests in the main house, but still very quiet. Lorraine (property manager on site) checked in with us during the visit to make sure that we have everything we needed. The house and property description in the listing was accurate. No surprises! Follow the instructions for locking the front french doors, be sure to lock left door and pull up on right door's handle to lock. Easy drive to the Botanical Gardens/Blue Iguana habitat. Grocery and liquor stores are very near by, just north of the property. We would recommend this property to anyone visiting the island who desires a private quiet location. Wish we could have stayed longer. Try Over the Edge for dinning out. It's on the north side. Just a note on the directions provided, they state that there are two 50 mph speed signs when approaching the property, which we did not see. If you are approaching from the south side, just keep a look out for the big yellow house on your right after you pass Colliers beach. It's not easy to see, so you may not see it until you are right in front of it. It is easier to see approaching from the north.

All we wanted and more...
We arrived at the Cottage on April 24 for our honeymoon. We had issues with the flight which made us arrive later than expected but we had no issues finding or getting into the cottage. Nadine came over and met us as we arrived. She had put beautiful flower petals around the cottage and left us a bottle of champagne and a welcome note. We were so very pleased with this place. The cottage was very clean and cozy. It had everything we needed. You truly are a few steps from the beach and the view is amazing. If you are wanting to go be around a ton of people and party all night...this is NOT the place for you. We saw maybe 5 other people on the beach the entire 6 days we were there and they were people that had walked from a resort down the road. Our desire was to go somewhere we could relax and chill as much as possible and this place did not disappoint. There was construction being done to the big house. Nadine apologized for the noise but we honestly never heard it. Speaking of Nadine - She is WONDERFUL!!! We felt like we left there knowing a new friend. She even sent us home with an amazing wood carved fish that we will forever cherish. We recommend this place to anyone traveling to Grand Cayman. If we ever go back we know exactly where we will be staying. :-)

Deceived by old photos depicting the property from long ago, and false ad copy representations..
As stated in the title, the representations of this property are a complete scam. Here is an enumeration some of the most egregious falsehoods: The property is actually located 10 feet from the main road and 100 yards from the beach. The view around the property encompasses trash, construction debris, and general disrepair. The decks and railings are falling apart, the roof is rusted through, and the deck boards are peeling their paint. The front door has been replaced and looks like it was removed and replaced with a dull butter knife. The coconut tree depicted as growing through the deck is a stump. The interior furnishings look like hand me downs from a college fraternity house. The lamp shade was smashed and torn. The bedspread was covered with stains, and the bed linens had holes in the sheets. The furniture cushions were beyond their useful life. The coffee machine looked as though it may have been there since the islands founding in 1503. The amount of corrosion on the iron and stains on the ironing board made it look ancient, as well. After one nights stay, we decided the property was in such bad condition we moved to the Wyndam resort to complete our vacation on the island, This property is not worthy of a VRBO listing, and was not worth one penny of what it cost to rent the Cottage by the Road. In addition to this review, I will be posting this review content, along with accurate photos of the property, on Google.
