The Netherland’s tallest lookout tower offers breathtaking panoramas of Rotterdam and a fine-dining restaurant with dazzling views.

Step into the elevator and make your way to the crow’s nest of the spectacular Euromast, located 328 feet (100 metres) above ground level. If you are feeling brave, take the fully transparent elevator all the way up to 606 feet (185 metres). Enjoy a relaxing meal at the brasserie or for a real adrenaline rush try abseiling down the side of the mast.

The Euromast was designed by architect H.A. Maaskant and was built in 1960. Originally constructed as a smaller tower as a part of the Floriade Flower and Garden Festival, it was later extended to its current height. After careful consideration it was named a “mast” as this word has a similar meaning in many European languages.

Head to the main viewing platform and use the telescopes provided to scope out the stars or to get a closer look at the city far below. Look for recognizable landmarks, such as the Erasmus Bridge and the Feyenoord Stadium. For a really great view, hop in the rotating, glass elevator that will transport you to the very top of the mast. On a clear day you can see all the way to Antwerp in Belgium from here.

If you want to spend even longer in this lofty setting, dine in the restaurant on the main platform. The restaurant is open every day and serves brunch, lunch and dinner. A varied international menu is on offer with highlights including grilled fish and veal. A children’s menu is also available.

Fans of extreme sports will love the opportunity to abseil down the mast. Experienced guides will give you the necessary instructions before you descend to the ground. Stop outside the restaurant window for a memorable photo opportunity. There is a charge for abseiling down the mast and you should contact the reception to organise it prior to coming.

The Euromast is located close to the centre of Rotterdam. It is open all week and there is an admission fee to enter. Book ahead to ensure you get yourself a table at the popular restaurant.
