The Faggeta del Monte Cimino is a dense and scenic beech forest gracing the slopes of the mountain of the same name. Its hiking trails make for an ideal destination for walking, horseback riding and mountain biking. The mountain peak is the highest in the Antiapennine range, climbing to 3,455 feet (1,053 meters) above sea level. Bring enough water and comfortable hiking shoes for your stroll along the marked paths that run through the forest.
Lay down a blanket for a picnic atop one of the imposing rocks dotted around the park. You can also go for a meal on the terrace of the Baita la Faggeta. Reach the summit of the mountain for scenic vistas extending across the Tiber Valley. On clear winter days, you can see the villages of Soriano Nel Cimino, Bomarzo and Bassano in Teverina.
The Faggeta del Monte Cimino is on the slopes of its namesake mountain, a little southwest of Soriano Nel Cimino. Drive southwest from the town center for around 10 minutes to reach the heart of the forest and leave your car in the parking lot. Combine your time here with visits to surrounding highlights as the Viterbo town center, the Parco dei Mostri and the Castello Orsini.
