Belvedere On The Potomac

Potomac River Waterfront that has a fabulous 180 degree view of the Potomac River. The view will greet you every time you look out the window or step on the lovely front deck of this manor type home. This is an historic site of both Revolutionary and Civil War events involving battles for the Potomac Ford, a dam, and old mill. It is a peaceful, private, incredibly beautiful location. The home was built (around 1790) to take advantage of the view. There is even a peaceful OLD colonnade of huge trees at one end of the property. The front of the property has a large lawn down to the river, the back of the home is encased by an astounding rock formation: also beautiful to be viewed from all the rear windows and from a patio accessed through the french doors in the dining area. Patios, balconies and decks provide quiet, private and varied viewing spots. The area is home to lots of wildlife as well as wild vegetation. Bring you canoes, kayaks, power boat, fishing gear and swimming suit to enjoy the Potomac. “I go to nature to be soothed and healed, and to have my senses put in order”, Naturalist John Burroughs. This property is for you if you want access to the beautiful Potomac River waterfront for recreation and escape from the city. One of a kind!

***New for 2022***

The East Wing kitchenette has been converted into a saloon to include standard-size wet bar, bar refrigerator, and under the bar ice maker. Lots of new fixtures and furniture upgrades as well. Come hang out in the ol' Saloon!

A great place to go away for the weekend!
The house is a beautiful property on the West Virginia side of the Potomac River. Despite problems caused by events outside of the owners control (hurricane), they remained in contact and had the problems worked on immediately.

Private Getaway
Beautiful sprawling property right on the Potomac River. Pictures in listing are true representation of what you will get. Plenty of room to spread out in the very spacious kitchen and the saloon is a fun spot to grab a drink! Host is very responsive. Sent someone out immediately to address concerns about wasp nest. As previously mentioned, loft gets very hot and the mattresses are not the most comfortable. This would not deter me from recommending it. We had an amazing mini family vacay relaxing on the river.

Relaxing and fun Family Vacation
This is the place you want to go when you look for a family vacation. Thanks to Gary for sharing his beautiful place. We really enjoyed every minute of our time there. We brought our kayak and paddle boards. Gary also provided us with plenty of firewood. Looking at the Potomac River and water-sports on the river makes everyone happy. Definitely we will revisit again.

Great
Firstly, Gary was an amazing host! He was incredibly responsive and accommodating for any questions we had. Second, the view of property was absolutely breathtaking. The home was great for our group of seven people and we loved that each room with the exception of the loft had their own bathroom and shower. The house was neat, clean and organized. The fairy lights around the gazebo was one of our favorite areas. Plus despite being a remote area there are a ton of shops just 5-10 mins away. Just a little note there are a ton of animals that are around the patio and home including groundhogs, snakes, deer and rabbits. As with any wild animals don’t bother them and it’ll be fine but you’re almost guaranteed to see them.

Family Memorial Service
The house and property are as presented in the description. The kitchen and family gathering areas are excellent and very well appointed. The location and lawn area near the Potomac are amazing. Quiet, remote, and plenty of wildlife for all to enjoy. We were in the area for a family member's memorial service so it was nice to have such a large place to gather with our immediate family and have some extended family join us for a nice breakfast and relaxing morning visit. Would highly recommend and would definitely revisit this amazing and historic house so well restored.

Belvedere on the Potomac
Beautiful property with lovely views! We saw a fox, deer, and geese. Nicely secluded, but still close to major cities and great base-camp for sightseeing in the area. Upstairs can get a bit warm, master bedroom mattress is very firm (some may not like that), and 3rd bedroom mattress was uncomfortable according to my college aged daughters. Overall fabulous stay. Owner communication was great too! My husband said he would buy the property if it came up for sale.

We had a lovely time at the Belvedere on the Potomac. The old unique house was a wonder to explore, complete with lots of information on the local history. We enjoyed sitting out by the river under the pergola. Definitely recommend for a quiet getaway!

Family Trip with Teens
We had a lovely stay. There are plenty of nooks and crannies for older kids to hang out. We went kayaking with family in the area and communication was easy. The attic can be a little warm for sleeping in mid-summer, but it was doable for teenagers. We will be recommending to our friends who visit the area!

Great week at the river
Beautifully restored old house on lovely, very private property on the Potomac. Rented to spend a week with my wife and I with our adult children. We had the good luck to have wonderful weather for the entire week except for one rainy day. Overall a wonderful week, and we would certainly consider booking the house in the future.

Fantastic Stay!
Wonderful home with a large yard facing the Potomac River. Lots of room for a large group to relax. Kitchen well stocked with everything needed. Beds were firm but comfortable. No shades or curtains on the windows so a sleep mask is recommended to block the morning sun. Great riverfront sitting area to enjoy the picturesque scenery. Spent most of the day fishing from the property; caught mostly catfish. Enjoyed a nice hiking trail on the other side of the river. Grill and firepit came in handy. The house saloon/bar was a great hangout spot. Gary was very responsive to all questions and requests. A fantastic stay and would highly recommend to anyone looking for a relaxing river retreat!

Gem on the Potomac
My family and I were thrilled to have the pleasure of staying at Belvedere on the Potomac. We all agree that it more than well stocked, great views, very spacious, exceptionally clean, and is certainly one of the best VRBO's we have visited. It is tastefully decorated, quiet, easily accessed, great for relaxing. You can watch the nice size TV in the main living area with all of the streaming and live TV options or sit quietly by one of the fireplaces that are all a push of a button away. Peaceful when you want it to be with enough adventure space for a lovely walk or adventure. Our favorite space for gathering was the kitchen, which was certainly put through its paces with demanding menus all week; we only needed to bring very specialized platters and pots, but it had everything you would need, including 2 ovens (one convection only, we believe), electric griddle to make those breakfast feasts, waffle maker to help with that too, and storage containers to use during your stay. Our multi-generational group loved the space it afforded. My young nephews loved having their own attic loft with the futon beds and TV with just a DVD player - which was perfect, according to kids and parents alike. There is also an entire additional kitchen in the bonus room on the main floor - which has fabulous radiant heating and kept my grandmother comfortable. We loved that it is also dog friendly, since our furry girl is part of our family. We would have liked to stay longer. Even though we had unseasonably warm weather between Christmas and the end of the year, we envision enjoying that veranda even more and would would love to come back and visit during the summer!

Beautiful Property
We enjoyed everything about our stay at the Belvedere! The historic home is in great shape. It's a very big home and our family of seven was able to spread out and at times lose each other. During our entire stay we didn't run into any other people. The water views were phenomenal and we really appreciated the well stocked home.

Beautiful quiet spot facing the Potomac River
This is a spacious house in a gorgeous setting. The kitchen is spacious and has plenty of equipment for cooking and baking (we made a Thanksgiving feast here). It was immaculate and well cared for. We had one problem with the heat when we arrived which the owner had someone handle immediately (on the Wednesday before the holiday!) and then no other issues. Responsive hosts, well-appointed and clean home, quiet neighborhood with natural beauty — couldn’t have asked for more.
