Explore the period rooms, grounds and museums of this palatial home. See 18th-century horse-drawn carriages and stroll through a greenhouse of tropical plants.

Tour the magnificent rooms of the 18th-century Festetics Palace. The two-story Baroque masterpiece was built for a noble family and is one of the largest palaces in Hungary. It is surrounded by a nature reserve park and within the grounds are a coach museum, palm house and hunting exhibition.

Enjoy a glimpse of aristocratic lifestyles of the 18th and 19th centuries as you explore rooms decorated with period furniture and featuring high ceilings, oak wall panels and grand fireplaces. See the oak staircase with its family portrait gallery and go to the library wing. This is one of the highlights of the palace and contains more than 80,000 items. The collection was built by the Festetics family over a period of around 200 years. Visit the Mirror Room, which hosts a number of concerts throughout the year.

After inspecting the palace’s rooms, step out for a stroll through the surrounding parkland. Your walk will take you by trees that are more than 100 years old, colorful flower beds and several statues. Among them is a bronze statue of George Festetics I who added the library wing to the palace. Stop by the garden pond and gaze at the fountain, which is adorned with lion statues.

There is a lot more to see at the palace. In the Coach Museum find more than 50 carriages and other horse-drawn vehicles that were used in the 18th and 19thcenturies. Browse the collection of horse riding and coach driving equipment. In the Hunting Museum there are hunting trophies from five continents. Walk through the 19th-century Palm House and study the rare flowers and tropical plants. The palace is also home to a large collection of model railways.

Festetics Palace is open daily. Separate admission fees apply for the palace and on-site museums and exhibitions. There is no charge for children under the age of 6.
